M1911 Manufacturer Question

Post by puma guy »

Visited my veterinarian today for the all the pet's vaccinations and we were talking firearms. He told me a client showed him a photo of a Winchester M1911 pistol that he wanted $4500 for. I told him I was unaware that Winchester manufactured any, but I am no expert. He said the photo was not good enough to show manufacturer info. Anyone familiar with Winchester .45 1911's? I did make sure he wasn't talking about a Winchester 1911 Shotgun.

I will be just as curious as you to see replies here....I certainly didn't know they ever played in the 1911 business. At that price makes sense that it would be older anyway so maybe they did. News to me if so.

Hopefully some more knowledgeable than me will respond. I have found no reference to Winchester making M1911's but who knows maybe they submitted some samples for contract procurement bids. I asked him to try to get more details.

$4,500?
Hey Andy, should have known you'd have some info. I did ask if maybe he was talking about Rem-UMC or Rem-Rand. Interestingly your comment jolted the synapses and I vaguely recall Winchester prototype.

I have a couple of boxes Sierra 165gr .30 cal BTHP bullets I had for 40 years that I'm gonna give him and hopefully when I go by he'll have some more info about the 1911. I always try to be respectful (even if it's his friend) and not challenge to embarrass folks, so I'll give the benefit of the doubt. I used to get requests all the time for things that didn't exist back in the 1960's and if I tried to correct someone they always had a friend that had one.
Got a lot of requests to buy .45 Mangums "rlol" .
I finally gave up and just said we were sold out of the pistols and ammuntion. :smilelol5:
I'll post if I get any additional info.

Maybe he has THE prototype? Although if he did I suspect the actual value would be much higher.
