Got a New Hog Rifle

Post by Carry-a-Kimber »

I had been looking for an AAC Micro 7 for the past few months but very few dealers had them and the ones that did wanted about $150 over MSRP. I assumed that since the rifle was based off the Remington Seven action, Remington would be releasing their own bolt gun in .300 AAC BLK and sure enough they announced in Febuary that they would begin offering a 700 SPS in .300. I when to the gun shop and paid for one but they won't hit the market until sometime in the 2nd quarter.

The 700 SPS Tactical .300 AAC BLK had a 16.5" heavy contour threaded barrel, Hogue Overmold stock in ghilie green and fully adjustable trigger. I ordered a Warne 1-piece picatinny scope base and Buris Xtreme 30mm rings along with some 220 grain Remington OTMs today and plan on mounting a Leupold Tactical Patrol 3-9x40 illuminated scope. I'm thinking this might make a nice handy hog gun, especially after I get my stamp back on my YHM 7.62QD Ti. :evil2:

Very cool, and a nice looking firearm.
Man, ghille green certainly has 'grayed out' a lot since I last saw it ;) :biggrinjester:

Looks like a well aimed shot might knock a hog down. Good eating bacon!

Ordered an Elusive Wildlife XLR250 Kill Light for the rifle today. I got the "Pro Pack" which comes with green, red, and white LEDs and 3 types of mounts. I tried one out a few weeks ago and I think it will be a good choice for after hours hog and coyote hunting. Now if only Remington would start shipping the rifles... :totap:

That will make quite a potent combination when it all comes together.

Happy hunting!

So this rifle was supposed to be released 2nd quarter and I got tired of waitin for the gun shop to call so I emailed Remington yesterday. Got this response this morning.
"Response Via Email(Danny) - 08/01/2012 10:34 AM Production of the 700 in 300 Blackout has been pushed back to the fourth quarter of this year. They should be available before the holidays. Our apologies for the delays."

A guy I used to work with at the plant a few years ago had a Marlin lever action 45.70. We sighted it in at the range once and at the time I thought it was a little bit of a useless rifle, especially with the recoil. Now with hogs taking over the world it seems more practical to me.

9 months later...... IT'S HERE. Picked it up tonight, mounted the scope base and ordered the rings. Hopefully it will be ready to roll in a few days.

Gonna put a muffler on that bad boy? I bet a bolt gun in .300 blackout would be super quiet with a can.

Nice looking rifle, I just loaded my first 30 rounds of 300BO tonight. I started with subsonic tonight and tomorrow I will probably load a few supersonic to see how they shoot. Looks like a range trip is in order tomorrow. Did you pick up some ammo for your rifle back when you ordered it?

I have had a 300 Whisper Contender for some time and I built a 300 BLK AR a while back so I have a little.

Find that 7mm-08 yet? :biggrinjester:

How do you like the light? I want to set up my Bushy .308 for hog hunting but it looks like there would be quite a bit of stress on the light mount with recoil. Is there any effect from the light on the scope sight picture (bright light blowing out the scope)? Enough light at 100-150 yards?
