Were do I drop it off and where is/what's the name of the "place around the corner".
thanx,
rick

Man, I'm so sorry. I just did this a couple of months ago. The finger print location is on the corner of Airport Blvd. and ??? (I think it is Denison.) Call the number in your Texas Concealed HG Laws book. Don't go by the map on DPS's website. CHL Unit has moved!
Then once you get your prints done it's about a two-minute drive over to the CHL bldg. (Bldg. I, if I remember correctly). The people who work in the fingerprint office can direct you. It's really easy. Prints will cost you $9.95.
Sorry for not remembering the exact location. If you're in Austin, it's the only way to do it!
Good luck!

Figures that they decide to put things in two different places . . . this IS in Austin, after all!
When I got my CHL and renewal, I dropped off the packet at the DPS offices on Lamar - a small building in back of the main complex. They both checked out the packet AND redid fingerprints right there, just a few steps away. (Each time, the original prints were less than sterling.)
My next renewal is coming up in late '08, so I guess I'll have to pay attention to how they've decided to add further inconvenience . . . bummer.
(Maybe it's just one last stress test before getting a CHL to see if you can deal with bureaucratic nonsense without going postal?
