Are You Waiting On the First Five People To Get Crucified?

What was the legend that the hapless political wonk invoked a year or so ago? The Romans would roll into town and crucify the first five people they laid hands on and then they’d have little trouble from the rest of the proles? Something like that.

Over at Pat Dollard’s place there is a fine sentiment showing manly, warrior support for Ted Nugent’s “Concord Bridge” comment. I love it. But much of the bravura and dispute in the comments is about firepower and armed conflict. We’re nowhere near that point yet. I think the Dumbed-down Party will allow us to keep our guns for another year or two. They still have much work to do, and many examples to set up to bring about the desired fear. And if not outright fear, then the desired sobriety of a man considering the ends of one’s actions.

I've been thinking a lot about this topic in light of NY. It would appear that we are going to find out very soon how the first 5 crucifixions will take place there. There is no doubt in my mind that there will be crucifixions, regardless of the final disposition of the gun ban/registration law. It may be the ultimate WWYD scenario.

My guess is that it will be a war of attrition. They will never risk an apocalyptic "suicide by cop" event initially. They will probably develop PC on a few high profile guys that they believe have banned weapons, make arrangements to have them picked up on the street and then raid their homes. The media will cooperate and splash the arrests so that the rest of the population gets the message. They will pick a few hundred and hope that is enough. I think that they will work hard to make sure that there isn't loss of life during the arrests.

What scares me most is the possibility of a pre-emptive strike by the gun owners after that. It would only take one or two who feel that they have nothing to loose turning themselves on an establishment target to turn the whole thing into a martial law situation. I honestly believe that is the preferred path for the Feds. Nothing good will happen after that. If a situation like that develops in NY, the National gun ban will almost assuredly pass quickly.

I sure hope I'm wrong.

That is not what the Romans did. They offered peaceful "Romanizing" with courts, roads, baths, peace, and a number of other things that Romans considered necessities in a civilized society. They even allowed the locals to keep their religion(s) so long as that religion didn't require kicking the Romans out. All this came at a price in money and troops for the Roman Army. Only when people refused did Roman attack militarily.

I'm not praising Rome by any stretch of the imagination, but lying about them to print yet another dooms day article is hardly a badge of credibility.

During the late Republican period as well as the Imperial, successful generals also established Veterans Colonies in newly assimilated provinces. Grants to discharged veterans not only helped develop those areas but provided a trained, fit militia that usually absorbed the first blows of any insurgency or invasion, allowing time for provincial govenors to respond. By the late imperial era the "vast majority"(sorry, I'm just falling in love with this term) of legionaires were recruited from these colonies and the outer provinces, as urban Latins strove to avoid military service. By the 4th century if Pop wanted to keep his grant, Junior was required to enlist. Pompeii was one of the original Veterans Colonies as was Cologne(colony).
