Can one find a Russian or Chinese SKS through a vendor these days? I'm under the impression a private sale or a gun show would be the place to find one.

I've seen a few places that have them for under $300, which I would consider a reasonable deal. Cabelas has them for $350, which is what I'd consider an average to high price.

sks is a fun little gun.
a buddy of mine has one and its a blast to shoot. ammo is cheap, easy to find spare parts.

Another thing about the SKS is you can pull the gas piston out and make it a straight pull bolt action if you want. I did this with my kids when they were little and it worked great.

On another tangent...I have a budy selling a Norinco SKS. Not knowing a lot about Norincos or SKS in general, are these guns any good?

It seems better to get a Suomi due to the cost of ammo.
