Back in the 60's I was issued a military watch. It was OD, with black face, white hands and numerals. Looked like this one on eBay

When I went to USAF Basic Training in 1989, they told us we should get a watch the first time we were allowed to go to the little Exchange they had in the training area...and that was almost the exact type of watch most of us bought. "Matched" the uniform, not flashy, and wouldn't have the sergeant yelling at you for being "faddish".
