In your carry holster, do you carry in a holster that has a thumb strap or other locking/retention mechanism that has to be overcome to draw the weapon?

I voted but only once.

I have an IWB w/o thumb break, and I have a OWB with a thumbreak.

If its concealed, I feel it is pretty secure with an open top holster like the Don Hume I have for the G23...Its IWB so it feels pretty good...

I have a "Yanqui" style for the Sig and an OWB paddle holster with a
thumb break for the same if need be...

My standard IWB Kydex holster is open top and needs no other retention device. I preffer open top holsters, athough when I use it, my waist pack has a retention strap.

I have a variety of holsters at this point, a couple of Fobus for a couple of different guns that you couldn't get the gun to fall out of if you tried.

My primary carry holster is also the one I compete in IDPA with, my standard mode of carry with it is fairly tight, although for IDPA I loosen it up a little.

One of my waist packs has a rentention strap, the other does not.

Open top all the way. With my arthritis, a thumb break type holster is awkward and painful. Retension holsters are out of the question.
I can draw pretty fast if my thumb doesn't have to do anything but grip the gun. Otherwise I'm hadiman.

The thread about guns falling from holsters into toilets and such got me thinking about this.

I also attend several shooting schools a year, and I have found that when moving fast often seat belts can tangle around butts and pull guns out, in a scuffle elbows and arms can pull them out, and many other things you wouldn't think of.

I used to carry open top, but switched after seeing and experiencing some of that.

Primary holster: Don Hume belt slide. Nice and snug, no worries about falling out.

Backup holster: Fobus paddle. DEFINITELY no worries about falling out. If you remove gun and holster together, it's darned hard to get the gun out.

BUTT PACK, you forgot the butt pack! That's what I use most of the time. You have to pull the "rip cord" to get into it. All of my IWB holsters are open top Kydex. I just bought a Galco Matrix M7X (OWB, open top, plastic) I haven't even used it yet. It needs some "adjustment" first!! I can't get the gun out without tremendous effort, not to mention an Atomic Wedgie. I remembered that post by Chas about not being able to get his 1911 out of a new holster. I check my new ones real close before I hit the street. A little hair drier work should fix it right up. I'm going to get right on it after I go get some batteries, water, canned goods etc.

I am presently using an open top IWB, but I have one with a thumb break ordered, more for protection of the gun than retention.

Some of my holsters have a thumb strap. Some don't. The only carry location that I think NEEDS a thumb strap is ankle carry - and I do have one of those. Beyond that, it is a matter of what you need and how you are built and ...

all of my holsters are open top with retention on the trigger guard. i mostly use in Comp Tac holsters.

Which one do you use?

Is this just a fanny pack ran around to the back or what?

lmk...this is someting i would consider for less formal events.
