Go shooting with me some time. That will be ample reward.

Re: The truth about gun safes
I bought an AMSEC a few years back. It has the solid steel door like he was showing. I think mine is half inch think. I am working off an ancient memory but I believe I paid around 3500 for it.
One thing in that video that is very true in my mind. We get what we pay for. The academy safes I have looked at are not much more than security protection from children. For me the amount I spend on the safe should reflect the value of what is in it. I don't know about dropping 11 grand on that top of the line safe but 3500 is only a couple "fun guns" in today's market. One could easily accumulate 10 grand in weapons over a few years of collecting.

I ended up watching the entire video, and I never watch videos that long on Youtube. Thanks, it was interesting.

Lots of great information to have for the next safe purchase, thanks for sharing. I had assumed that all that concrete was in a safe for the fire protection. I went on to the fort knox website and built a top of the line with all the bells and whistles. $13,000

Re: The truth about gun safes
13 grand is a lot of money, but if a person had a 75k gun collection, they could probably afford a 13k safe. I believe it is all relative. I would not have spent 3500 to protect a couple handguns and a 400 dollar deer rifle.RX8er wrote:Where was this several weeks ago before I bought a safe.... viewtopic.php?f=23&t=62259" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;![]()

My research has led me to Sturdy Safe which seems to be a no frills all about security type safe built in America. Does anyone know where you can buy one of these? Reviews on the internet are all positive, and their videos really make you think about safe construction.

Re: The truth about gun safes
When I was doing my research, I couldn't find anywhere to go look at one. As you have, all the reviews were great. They would ship for 'free' and work with me to find a local safe guy to have it installed.
TBM and I ultimately decided on the Winchester Ranger line. Emmitt at A & C gave us a great deal, plus he's about 5 miles north of us. It was a good safe for a little money. We don't put anything in the safe that can't be easily replaced by insurance so ultimate protection was low on our own list. The good thing is it is thin metal with an electronic lock; guess if there is an EMP, I can easily chisel my way in.

Re: The truth about gun safes
An option for folks who don't want to deal with moving a very heavy safe, or who may be anticipating one or more moves in the near future, is the SnapSafe modular safe. It comes in pieces, all of which weigh under 100 lbs, and is assembled on location. It can be disassembled and moved as well.rentz wrote:i wish id bought a better safe, but i needed one sooner rather than later so i got one at costco.

A video that shows how all this works can be found here.
Another factor one may want to take into account during our current solar maximum cycle is that it's possible for a large solar flare (or other EMP event) to fry the electronics in a push button gun safe lock. Being locked out of one's gun safe when many normal infrastructure systems are going down might be more than a little inconvenient. The standard, tried and true, mechanical safe lock, although slower to open, is immune to this issue.

Re: The truth about gun safes
Yes, but there is a Deluxe Package body upgrade on Fort Knox that's only a few hundred that gives you the metal thickness of their high dollar safes.03Lightningrocks wrote:13 grand is a lot of money, but if a person had a 75k gun collection, they could probably afford a 13k safe.
