Yes we have both.
They both hit the target each time the trigger is squeezed.
The XDM .45 compact is a little bit shorter in overall length.
The XDM has swappable back straps, an advantage if the XD does not feel right in your hand, or point well for you. For me and my wife, the XD grip works well, so the XDM is set up the same way.
The XDM sights are better stock then the XD, BUT I wanted trijicon night sights on the XD so was is a moot point.
Trigger? Not enough difference as they come from the factory to make a difference.
MAG release, my XD was great out of the box... I spent a few hours honing and polishing the brand new XDM one to work well.....this is a common complaint for the XDM .45 I found when I researched the issue. Most just say it needs to be "broke in" I think that equates to, I have no idea how to take it apart and fix it, and or pay some one to... so I'll just live with it till parts wear in.

I carry the XD Compact 45 too.
Totally agree w/ the above. If you dont NEED the grip pannels you would never know the difference. Save the $120 for ammo.
Man I wish we had that many choices around here.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Re: xd 45 compact or xdm 45 compact?
I have the XDm Compact .45. I haven't shot an XD compact .45, but I have shot a XD Compact .40. Either is a great pistol. Springfield claims a match barrel for the XDm. I have kind of short stubby fingers, so I use the smaller backstrap, and the gun now fits me better than it did out of the box.
YMMV.
YMMV.

Don't discount the availability of the interchangeable backstraps too quickly. Like TAM, I found the smaller backstraps (on my XD(M) 5.25" 9mm) worked best for me, even though no one has called me "small" since I was in 4th grade. You need to try the different ones to see how they work for you.E.Marquez wrote:...

The XD(M) back sights are adjustable - again, don't discount that too quickly. Though a lot of folks say that you shouldn't have to adjust the sights, I found that my pistol was off enough (down and left) that the adjustment was necessary. Now, no problem hitting what I aim at.
There are several aftermarket competition triggers available for the XD(M) if you're interested. I found that my pistol's trigger worked just fine for me (at about 5 pounds of pull) after a couple of hundred rounds through the thing.
Is the XD(M) worth the extra money? For some folks no - but for others, it may be. There wasn't an XD available in my gun (the 5.25" 9mm "competition"), but I'd have no problem paying the extra for one in which it was XD-versus-XD(M).
