Buy a 1911 to Support the Battleship Texas

Post by howdy »

This group is selling 2000+ 1911's to support the renovation of the Battleship Texas:

"As many as 2,000 of the pistols, engraved with images of the ship at various points in its career along with the Texas star, will be offered for sale in observance of the 2014 centennial of the warship's commissioning.

Until May 1, the pistols will sell for $1,699; after that, the price increases to $2,014. Orders will be accepted through Sept. 1. Thus far, Bramlett says, about 75 of the firearms have been sold"

Would raise about 3 Million depending on how much the pistols cost
07/25/09 - CHL class completed
07/31/09 - Received Pin/Packet sent.
09/23/09 - Plastic in hand!!

This is probably the first time I have seen a commemorative firearm created for the public that I would consider buying...I guess its just something about the theme that makes it worthwhile to collect...

Of course it will be a safe-queen item...Anything with Texas, the Navy, and my favorite caliber, in such an iconic make and model, it just speaks to me...And the money is going to an excellent cause...

Got to keep this old gal floating!!! :thumbs2:

When I get one, I wonder if I could ever get them to allow me to carry it onboard and get a good picture with me, the pistol, in front of something easily recognizable on that ship, Like the ships plaque, in front of one of the main guns, over the fantail to get the ships name in the pic...It would make me very happy...

And we want Steve to be happy, right??? :txflag: ;-)

it's purdy!!! I love guns that say TEXAS! but I want to be able to carry them, and that would be too big for me and too $$ so not today.

I am really trying to figure out how I can justify the purchase. Of course it will be a safe queen. I guess I could buy two...

Judging by the comments it would appear these are Series 80? Guess since it would be a safe queen that should be fine.

Guns are like parachutes, if your ever in a situation that you need one and you dont have one, you'll probably never need one again.
