Intermediate Defensive Handgun Training

Post by jl39775 »

College of the Mainland in Texas City is offering a 12 hour Intermediate Defensive Handgun Training 3/18-3/20 from 6-10 PM. The cost is $194 for in district and $199 for out of district. I signed up and wanted to share this with anyone interested. It's part of their continuing education program. They still have seats available.

Probably not. COM gets students from a very broad area and compete against a lot of other schools. I'm guessing the cost difference is low on purpose.

Here's the schedule http://www.com.edu/continuing-education ... PR2013.pdf. It's on page 18. They have an advance class in May. It's 16 hours and $330-335

I highly recommend this class. I took it a couple of years ago. The instructor, Lem Powell is an ex-cop and trains police cadets also. Has some great stories from his days as a cop.

One thing I should warn you about. They provide ammo for your gun (can only use their ammo, frangible rounds). We found at least 3 defective rounds during one of the classes. One had a recessed bullet (got stuck on my gun). The other two, the casing was wrinkled. I found one of the wrinkled ones on my ammo box and the other got stuck on one of the other students gun. After that I inspected each and every round before I loaded them into my mags. That's how I found the wrinkled round. Other than that, it was a good class.

I went to the Civilian Firearms Practice a few weeks ago and asked the instructor if they use frangible rounds and he said no. They use lead free ammo.
