Firearm purchase background check
Okay so as a CHL, I haven't had to wait for a background check lately. But I am curious about what information is sent to the Feds. I know that all of the pertinent information about the buyer is sent. Is any info about what is being purchased sent? There is an obvious difference between the Feds knowing we own firearms and the Feds knowing what we own. And I understand that the FBI is required to delete the data within 24 hours. I'm still curious what goes on the form after we put our info on it and then pass it across the counter.

In addition to the information you enter. the form 4473 requiresgoose wrote: I'm still curious what goes on the form after we put our info on it and then pass it across the counter.
1. Your CHL number and expiration date (to bypass NICS),
2. The total number of firearms you purchased in the transaction, and
3. The manufacturer/importer, model, serial number, type, and caliber of each firearm.
In addition, the disposition (to you) of each of those firearms should be recorded in a bound book.

Thank you! One more clarification, is the form sent to the FBI/NICS, or is this simply the form that the dealer must keep as part of their records?apostate wrote:In addition to the information you enter. the form 4473 requiresgoose wrote: I'm still curious what goes on the form after we put our info on it and then pass it across the counter.

The FFL keeps it

And there have been reports that at least some F troop agents are going into FFL's and photocopying those. Don't know how widespread that is.

Should the dealer go out of business, the forms are sent to BATFE.goose wrote:Thank you!
