Car Accident and Revolver

Post by mommagamber »

On Monday I was t-boned by a guy trying to make the yellow light. He hit my drivers side door at 60 + MPH. By the grace of god I survived with no broken bones. Totaled my van. My Chiappa Rhino was in my drivers side door (along with a whole box of ammo) when he hit me. I am worried that it is damaged. Should I take it to a local gun smith or would I be better off sending it to Chiappa to check out? Just want some opinions.
I conceal carry because I choose not to be a victim.

Glad you are ok but remember to take it easy and see a doc. Lost my Dad a month after his car was smashed by a concrete truck.

I would start with a local gunsmith for a function check. If there is no cosmetic damage to the revolver it is probably ok. Most guns are built to take abuse.

:iagree:

A reputable smith would be able to make sure all is good w/ the gun and, if s/he has any reservations, will be able to give you recommendations on what to do.

Glad to hear you are ok. Just take it easy!

:iagree: Make certain your family is keeping an eye on you for unusual behaviors that might indicate hidden problems.
Memory lapses, slurred speech, motor control issues, headaches, vision issues, etc.

I'm not a Dr. but I do stay at Holiday Inn express frequently

Very glad you're ok.

+1 for ... Take the gun to a gunsmith and let them know why you're there.

Yes.. these are similar symptoms as old age..

You are blessed! Just a word of advice. I had a similar issue when a driver of a van ran a red light because he was on his cell phone. If you do seek treatment don't sign-off on a medical release when you start feeling good. The insurance will take care of your medical. In my case I signed off too quickly. Two months later I was in lots of pain at the place where your ribs join. I couldn't sleep or eat. I finally had to pay my doctor for additional treatment. What I experienced was due to the seatbelt that crossed my chest. It didn't show up until all the swelling had gone away. There will be things that show up weeks after so don't be too quick to stop medical treatment. Just my 2 cents.

When you talk to the appraiser who assess damage to your car, you need to tell them about the gun. They will be responsible for working with you on any damage to it.
