Liberty Civil Defense "Halo Point" Rounds
What are your thoughts on this round? Pros/Cons? The online videos are really impressive.
Re: Liberty Civil Defense "Halo Point" Rounds
I have no experience with them, but I will comment that they are no longer Halo Point rounds as Microsoft sued them for unauthorized use of their brand. So you will not find them on Liberty's website anywhere, now they are simply called "Civil Defense" rounds.

If you find some for sale, please post it up because i would love to buy some. I want them just to have them, not ever shoot them (unless they become my last available rounds for some unavoidable reason).
Here's a link to Midway that will never be in stock again

Re: Liberty Civil Defense "Halo Point" Rounds
I just bought some off of amunitiondepot.com. I was aware of the name change, but I think that is all that changed. The bullets are the same. What is at ammunitiondepot right now is currently listed as "halo point", but what actually received may be the re-branded version.

Re: Liberty Civil Defense "Halo Point" Rounds
Interesting round. Other than the issue of name brand, what are some thoughts on this round? Is penetration on the bg wearing heavy clothing or a coat going to be a problem?
A quick google search helped me find this on another forum.
Product Information
Liberty Halo-Point Civil Defense ammunition is a high velocity, extremely accurate load designed for self-defense. The 78 Grain Lead-Free Fragmenting Hollow Point bullet travels at 1900 feet per second, resulting in 12 inches of ballistic gel penetration and a permanent wound cavity greater than 5 inches in diameter. When tested through denim cloth into ballistic gel, this load penetrated almost 8 inches deep and produced a wound cavity 6 inches in diameter. This lightweight, high velocity round yields less felt recoil and has an effective range of 25 meters. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, and requires no weapons modifications.
Technical Information Caliber: 45 ACP +P
Bullet Weight: 78 Grains
Bullet Style: Fragmenting Hollow Point Lead-Free
Case Type: Nickel Plated Brass
Ballistics Information:
Muzzle Velocity: 1900 fps
Muzzle Energy: 625 ft. lbs.

Re: Liberty Civil Defense "Halo Point" Rounds
I'm seriously considering switching my defense ammo to this, provided the round "gets along" with my PPS. My only concerns are...1) its expensive...currently 1.25 per round at ammunition depot (the only place I've seen it in stock recently); and 2) how does it preform on heavy/baggy clothing. There is a youtube video out there that supposedly shows this particular round penetrating 5 inches past a class III armor plate. The liberty website does say that their military version of the round will penetrate armor, but the civil defense will not. If baggy/heavy clothing does not significantly hinder performance, than this round looks to be crazy impressive with a 5 inch permanent wound channel....that'll leave a mark!

Microsoft really sued them for using the word Halo???
Wow, I guess we never thought to sue Micro$oft for using that word, we had it in use way before they did.

I understand what you're saying. Even if I decide to switch, I like the idea of carrying HST in my backup mag.SRO1911 wrote:I'll stick with good ol jhp from any reputable manufacturer. Seems like there is a new magic bullet every few months - most of which are too expensive to really put to the test and all of them with fantastic pr/marketing dept. Remember xtreme shock, with its supposed shape charge or the 117 grain 45acp from aguila, the IQ bullet, or even the Glaser safety slug. All look awesome on paper. If they make you more confident then by all means load em up BUT even the greatest whiz bang wonderbullet will not make up for a mediocre shot. And even a mediocre bullet, in the right spot is devastating.

I can see why they got sued.

Be nice if they were "HALO" rounds. You shoot the bad guy and instantly become good!

Re: Liberty Civil Defense "Halo Point" Rounds
I believe they got a cease and desist letter from Microsoft, to which they complied. So no actual lawsuit was filed. In any case, a re-branding was in order.
Just a note: I watched some youtube videos on this round last night, and most of the videos out there show the performance of the 55 and 62 gr 9mm rounds, which are not available to the public.

Re: Liberty Civil Defense "Halo Point" Rounds
This stuff seems pretty similar to the RCBD-brand stuff that's been around for a while. It honestly seems a little gimmicky to me, and I'm not aware of any law enforcement agencies that issue it. I think I'll stick with any major manufacturer's quality hollow-point, until there's more independent testing.

I ordered a box of the nine and a box of the fourty. Just to horde, not to fire. I am hoping it is that same brand and might have a value one day.

Re: Liberty Civil Defense "Halo Point" Rounds
I just recieved tracking info telling me my "really cool" ammo is on the way. I am hoping it is the boxes with the stolen logo on them. I just want them to sock away for cool factor.
Did you recieve your order yet? Was it the actual box marked Halo?
