What Is A Universal Background Check?
It seems almost every politician talks about 'Universal Background Checks'.
What is this? Who checks what? What is meant by 'Universal'?

If the 2nd admendment only applies to muskets and muzzle-loaders, then the 1st admentment must apply only to the spoken or printed word. Printing must be done on hand presses, news stories must be written in longhand, no keyboards or electric processes may be used.

Every one in the Universe
Including, but not limited to ...
Martians...
all Aliens, both legal and illegal criminal types.
I'm unsure how many dimensions it covers though, I mean like those in Superman's "Phantom Zone" might not be "in the Universe"

Re: What Is A Universal Background Check?
What they want is background checks on everyone who purchases a firearm. No more FTFs, no "gun show loophole", no inheriting a firearm, no gifting, etc w/o a background check. Basically, if you want to legally transfer a firearm to another person, regardless of the reason, you must go through an FFL, fill out the 4473, wait the appropriate amount of time (unless approval is immediately granted), etc.StewNTexas wrote:It seems almost every politician talks about 'Universal Background Checks'.

Which, is impossible to actually enforce without complete registration.
See how one leads to the other?

Re: What Is A Universal Background Check?
Well, the first six replies weren't much help.
As long as it took a couple of years ago (about 98 days), it seems the checks to get a Texas CHL were pretty damn near universal.
Is this type of background what they are talking about?
I just will not work with any system that has anything to do with registration in any way, shape or form, no matter how nicely the left tries to dress it up with some silly benign name.

"Universal background checks" = NICS check for EVERY firearms transfer.
Let's assume we all agree this is a great idea (I know, we don't).
Now.... How do you guarantee that transfers don't take place outside the NICS system?
The ONLY way... The ONLY way... THE ONLY WAY...
Is to require that every gun be registered immediately.
And as we all here know.... Registration ------> Confiscation.
Otherwise, how does big brother prove that the gun I bought 5 years ago, that is now in your possession, was transferred to you before the "universal" check requirement?
And all I can say about universal REGISTRATION is.... μολὼν λαβέ
I am not a lawyer. This is NOT legal advice.!

No. "Universal" has nothing to do with the type of background check and everything to do with who the check is done on. In this case, "universal" means EVERYONE who wants to buy a firearm.StewNTexas wrote:As long as it took a couple of years ago (about 98 days), it seems the checks to get a Texas CHL were pretty darn near universal.

Good for you & welcome to the club. Neither will I, nor, I suspect, the majority of the people here. We can be outlaws together!

RottenApple:
Thanks for your reply. I looked up the 4473 form, it led me to OMB No. 1512-0129,
In the space titled '21' it states:
"No NICS check was required as the buyer had a valid permit as an expeption to NICS." On this form, the S/N of the firearm is not required. I would guess that any/all of forms of this type would be modified to require ALL REGISTRATION DATA.
No thanks, I will not play their game. I still believe "Shall Not Be Infringed" to be valid, no matter what Skippy the wonder putz says.

The 4473 had been modified many times.StewNTexas wrote:RottenApple:

It used to be a yellow, one page form.

Which is, in my opinion, the end game that the "Progressives" are playing at. It's not about safety, it's not about the children, it's purely and simply about control.dicion wrote:Which, is impossible to actually enforce without complete registration.

I believe that gun owners and those that value the Second Amendment should oppose "universal" background checks with every tool in the box, and if the ram this down our throats, make it our business to see that ANYONE who goes along with this scheme gets defeated in their next race AND make it clear that's why they're being pilloried.

A euphemism for the first step towards confiscation.

Re: What Is A Universal Background Check?
Well, if you want to get picky, you could say it's a first step to registration, which is for sure a giant step towards confiscation.
