what calibers are actually available?
what calibers are actually available?
I miss shooting. Are there any decent rifle calibers out there that don't cost an arm and a leg and that are actually available?

7.62x54R for my M91/30 isn't too bad. CTD in McKinney had a ton of 440 round spam cans for $180 this past Wednesday.brainman wrote:I miss shooting. Are there any decent rifle calibers out there that don't cost an arm and a leg and that are actually available?

I saw a bunch of 4.6 by 30 yesterday in Academy. I didn't even know that round existed or what gun uses it.

You mean the same ones Aim Surplus has been sporadically getting and selling for half that?RottenApple wrote:

I am seriously considering getting a 17HMR rifle. I have seen tons of the stuff around. If they have nothing else, they have 17HMR. I saw a lot at Academy earlier, but it was mostly deer calibers like .222, .204, some .30-06, .303 Brit, stuff like that.

Buy a shotgun, semi-auto if your would like, shoot slugs and buck shot. Enjoy, a big boom with a kick.

Aww, man. That is not to be enjoyed. I have a slug shotgun and 10 rounds through that literally leaves me bruised.Beiruty wrote:Buy a shotgun, semi-auto if your would like, shoot slugs and buck shot. Enjoy, a big boom with a kick.
Re: what calibers are actually available?
I just bought a 440 round count can of 7.62x54r for my M44 at Milsurp on S. Cravens in Fort Worth for $113 including tax. He also had 85gr 9mm (forgot the brand) FMJ plinkers for about $27 per 50rd box. Not sure how long it'll be there, though.
Re: what calibers are actually available?
I've seen a lot of 12ga #8 and 20ga, but I'm not sure what shot.
I've seen some.17HMR and 7mm and other hunting rounds and only occasionally some .380.

Re: what calibers are actually available?
Perhaps I should amend my original post by stating that I am unwilling to pay ridiculous prices for said available ammo. I understand that prices are up, but I'm not gonna pay twice what I paid last time. From what I can tell, that limits me to the calibers that one can actually find in stock at Academy, Wal-mart, etc. Everything I see online is just insane and I won't contribute to that.
Re: what calibers are actually available?
Throughout the last shortage, and this one, I've consistently seen plenty of .30-06 at Academy.

I wonder why? Time to acquire an M1 Garand maybe?JCole wrote:Throughout the last shortage, and this one, I've consistently seen plenty of .30-06 at Academy.

It's almost never a bad time to get a Garand. And the longer one waits the more difficult it will be to get one.GrillKing wrote:I wonder why? Time to acquire an M1 Garand maybe?JCole wrote:Throughout the last shortage, and this one, I've consistently seen plenty of .30-06 at Academy.

Nice! Thanks for the tip on the Mosin ammo. I didn't buy at CTD the other day, but now I'm gonna have to keep an eye on Aim Surplus.Chris wrote:You mean the same ones Aim Surplus has been sporadically getting and selling for half that?RottenApple wrote:

I was at GT's Austin thursday. They had some makarov 9x18? ammo.. oh joy
Re: what calibers are actually available?
I'm with you. My stepfather told me about a store getting 9mm, and he offered to get me some, but I'm not going to pay what they want. I don't need to go shooting that bad.brainman wrote:Perhaps I should amend my original post by stating that I am unwilling to pay ridiculous prices for said available ammo. You can enter your email, and they will notify you when it comes in. I have seen it selling out, but it usually takes a few days, so you should have plenty of time to get some when they get it in.RottenApple wrote:
