That is unfortunately true.
Here's my version: Give a man with a welfare card a fish can he can eat for a day. Teach a man with a welfare card to fish and he will sit in your boat all day and drink your beer.

Teaching a man to fish is kinda like having your own 401k that still works.
First sell him a boat. He will be back for top waters, crankbaits, many different strengths of line.
Soon you can sell him a better trolling motor, some chrome wheels for his trailer and probably an updated GPS for his favorite fishing spots.
He will soon graduate into needing a larger and more powerful boat, along with ALL related equipment. Remember what the word BOAT really means:
