Home invasion goes RIGHT when 11 yr old girl shoots robbers

I believe this to be a fictional event. There is nothing at all in the media reagrding this, nothing in the local papers in Montana, (From the time it supposedly happened in November of last year until today) and the only thing on the web are chat boards and blogs which all reference this one article. Also, there is nothing on the NRA site even though this is supposed to be from the NRA files according to the liberty.org site.

I would chalk this one up to an urban legend that may be based upon a true event that happened in another city. I know as gun owners and people who do support self-defense we like to hear about positive stories of people using their firearms to proect themselves, but we don' need to fabricate stories in order to do that. There are more than enough real stories on the civilian gun defense blog (complete with references) to support our case without having to resort to fabrication.

One question. What was an eleven year old doing home alone?

Obviously she waas guarding herself and the house, and quite well at that.

My ol' lady's daughter is (now) eleven years old.
She stays home for an hour whilst the aforementioned MOL commutes from work, occasionaly when MOL comes over to watch the Mavs stomp a mud-hole in the Warriors.... The youngin' is plenty old enough to have her own key, and run of the apt (we're poor, we can't afford houses) during those time's alone.

In the little village where I grew up it wouldn't have been unusual for kids that young to be home alone, but that was 50 years ago and a different time.

And I DID get beat with the hose, the rake, the golf club . . ., well, subject for a different thread.

Back when I was 9 years old, I was getting up early in the morning to babysit a 5 year old, and make 50 cents, while the parents were going to and coming from work. Would also babysit in the evenings, get free snacks and soda pop, and make a dollar.
That would probably be considered child neglect nowadays.

My daughter is 11, has been shooting since she was 7, has a black belt in TKD and she taught me how to slit an enemy sentry's throat in the video game SOCOOM.

When watching Walker, Texas Ranger the bad guy tried to stab someone, Ranger Walker intercepted the guy, who fell on his knife and died. I made some comment about putting his eye out with that knife. She said something about him dying, and I said, "yeah baby, but some people" and she cut me off and finished the sentence, "some people just need killin, huh."

After all of that, she is 11. My fear in leaving her alone are; a) she falls and knocks herself unconscious, breaks a bone, etc. Yes, if she is awake she knows how and will call 911, but having her be alone for that at 11?

b) Someone tries to break in. Regardless of what she might be able to do, I refuse to allow her to deal with that alone at 11.

Those are just risks I am not willing to take with her at this age.

I have 3 daughter and a son. We started leaving each of them home by themselves for short stretches. For example, my son is now 9. I will take the dog for 15-20 minute walk in the neighborhood and leave him alone during that time. He does great. As they get older, we then give them more reponsibility. Doing this gradually over time, but starting at a relatively young age, seems to give them time to learn how to make good decisions. I would trust almost any decision my 21 year old daughter makes, even if I didn't agree with it.

What if someone breaks into your home while your 9 year old is home alone? Have you had a fire drill for him?
