You can also use our search feature on the forum to look for 'small of back' and it will turn up previous discussions. You may have to dig through the topics a little.

SOB holsters are a bad idea for a number of reasons.

"Just Say No" to small of the back. Difficult draw, chair/seat backs make it even tougher, what if you sit on your cover garment, chance of injury to your back if you fall while carrying, the list goes on and on.

Every time I see people make blanket statements like the above two, I have to wonder if they've even tried wearing an SOB holster or if they're just repeating what they've read/heard.

I have a Galco SOB for my 1911s that I find extremely comfortable. I started wearing it when I was 350 lbs, and still wear it now I'm down to 215. I spend most of my day behind the wheel of my work van and the SOB is still comfortable. I've even taken a fall, landing on my right side (which is the side my SOB leans toward) and had no injuries because of it.

Like every thing else, SOB holsters are not for everyone. Some people find them comfortable, some don't. Some have back issues that a fall could cause issues, and some don't. The only way you will truly know is to try one out.

The biggest problem I had with SOB was my shirt getting caught on the grip whenever I would bend over. I have found it very easy to dress around 4:00 IWB or 3:00 OWB. Both are much more comfortable than SOB IMHO. Your mileage may vary.

I just got this SOB carry for my p238. About a few weeks ago my gf and I were having a tickle fight and I had fallen on my back quite hard. I was fine and went on to fighting (I lost, btw.. ). I also have damage to my L3 / L4 in my back, and yet it was ok. I only hurt my right shoulder blade. Nothing to complain about.

All in all, SOB isn't for everyone. It has been working fine for me for the few weeks I had it.

Glad it works for you. I have a 8 year old 8" long surgical scar on my lower spine, with titanium hardware not that far under the surface. The area is tender to the touch most of the time, and actually painful to the touch when my back is acting up. I can't imagine slamming a gun into it if I fell. I don't know if I'd be able to get back up.

Well, sure, TAM. I can understand how an SOB wouldn't be right for you, but that doesn't necessarily mean its wrong for everyone.

Check here for holster makers that people on the Forum use. I am sure you will find many small of the back holsters.

I wasn't saying that it is wrong for everyone else. I am glad that it works for 68Charger, whose back injury is higher up his spine than mine. His was at L3/L4, while mine was at L4/L5. I was just comparing his experience to mine, and in my case, it's as much to do with the hardware in my back as it has to do with the gun. Every case is individual.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to imply that you were saying its wrong for everyone. And I absolutely agree that each case is individual.
