Re: LEOs and CHL Rules
Another good reason: with a CHL, you still have a backup means of carrying if you are suspended. LEOSA only applies if the officer "is not the subject of any disciplinary action by the agency". And no, "disciplinary action" is not defined.CHL/LEO wrote:A few days ago a group of LEOs were talking about the CHL and their thoughts on it. Several of us in that group have our CHLs and were explaining to the ones that didn't why they might want to consider getting one. The primary reason now being to quickly facilitate the purchase of firearms.

I'm glad to see Texas has that provision. Here in Bossier City, we have a really neat new shopping/dining area, the "Louisiana Boardwalk", modeled after examples like the San Antonio Riverwalk. They have a "code of conduct" that prohibits carry by all except "on-duty law enforcement in the performance of their duties" and also SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDES carry by a person with a valid CHL.srothstein wrote: BUT, you also cannot deny entrance by a cop, on or off duty, based on his being in possession of a firearm. 30.05 has a section (g) added a couple years ago that makes it non-applicable for this reason.
You can still tell a cop to leave your property for other reasons, but not just because he has a gun and you do not allow guns.
Needless to say, we don't shop or dine there, despite the fact that there are a number of restaurants we'd love to eat at. But then, that's a moot point as well, because in Louisiana you can't carry at any "alcoholic beverage outlet", which includes all restaurants that serve alcohol, regardless of the fact that the CC statutes only address Class A (bar/nightclub) licenses.
