How much could it cost to build a custom AR 15?
Hello, what do you think the minimum cost could be to build a AR 15? This is only gun operational parts.

My lower cost $162 complete. My upper (which I hope to have delivered today) cost $510. So not including mags (which are kind of necessary) and a scope, the basic rifle cost $672. I'll post pictures as soon as it's assembled.

Thanks, I built my own before but (I spent more money than needed, but it's what I wanted,) and this one will be for my brother so I was trying to get a guestimate. I said $700-$800 to be safe.

Re: How much could it cost to build a custom AR 15?
I've built two, including the necessary modifications to make them CA legal, which I am looking forward to undoing as soon as I get to Yuma on the way to Texas in a month or so.
The first one was real expensive, took hours of doing and undoing and redoing, especially counting the cost of the medical assistance I required to get the grin off my face when it actually went "BANG!" the first time I pulled the trigger. I have a dazzling array of talents but mechanical prowess is not among them. I can usually tell a plier from a screwdriver 3 out of 5 times, on my day.
The second one was piece of cake, and virtually no cursing.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

By plier, a perfectly good work, I assume you meant "Pliar"?
And yes, I'm doing a bit of chain yanking, cuz you and I are in the same boat.
Mechanical aptitude: Non existent.
(my wife IS mechanically endowed and she ought to be as she's an engineer among her other talents)
I actually excel at brute force projects, but when it comes to anything remotely requiring mechanical know how, I go with my hat in my hand to "She, who must be obeyed" and beg for help or even better, no help per se as she simply cures whatever needs curing by her doing...while I uselessly stand around asking if I can help. Hey, I can hold a flashlight or fetch something....

Spell checker malfunction? Chain malfunction?Abraham wrote:By plier, a perfectly good work, I assume you meant "Pliar"?

I mean pliers, as in
I made a perfect score on the ARI-GCT when I enlisted in the Navy, and on the Morse code aptitude test, fitting as I was a radio operator (still am), but if I had missed one more question on the Mechanical test, not only would I not have been an officer, they wouldn't have even let me in the Navy! Needless to say I was not destined to be a machinist Mate or an Engineman, etc.Pliers are a hand tool used to hold objects firmly, possibly developed from tongs used to handle hot metal in Bronze Age Europe[1] they are also useful for bending and compressing a wide range of materials . Generally, pliers consist of a pair of metal first-class levers joined at a fulcrum positioned closer to one end of the levers, creating short jaws on one side of the fulcrum, and longer handles on the other side.[1] This arrangement creates a mechanical advantage, allowing the force of the hand's grip to be amplified and focused on an object with precision. The jaws can also be used to manipulate objects too small or unwieldy to be manipulated with the fingers.
Luckily, building an AR turns out to be so easy even a lawyer can do it.

My dictionary says: Plier - Someone who plies a trade, but what does it know or me for that matter...?
Pliers is a perfectly good word, I say with chagrin and grinning.
Oddly, this is the one tool I continuously find laying in the road on my bike rides. Yes, on occasion I find the mismatched combination wrench or screwdriver, but I've a garage full of pliers found while sojourning on me wheeled steed.

Unhappily, perhaps, I am much better at spelling than actually using the danged things.Abraham wrote:My dictionary says: Plier - Someone who plies a trade, but what does it know or me for that matter...?

Please excuse the drift. Back to your regularly scheduled thread.
