Walmart Ammo Report
Last night my girlfriend and I went to walmart to get some things for our friends wedding tomorrow. While we were there we decided to check out the sporting good section just to see if they had any kind of ammo. When I walked up there was one guy standing at the case looking. Right off the bat I noticed a box of 9mm. I thought it was my lucky day. Unfortunately the guy standing at the case bought it. However, he pointed out a stack of .223 in the corner. It was the cheap TulAmmo, but since it was normally priced i decided to grab some. Walmart still has the 3 box per person rule, so my gf and I got 6. The other guy got 2 plus the box of 9mm. There were 2 more boxes of .223 when i left, but i'm pretty sure the guy behind me was going to buy them. This was the first time in months that i've seen any 9mm or .223. Hopefully things are gonna return to normal soon.

Two Walmarts and one Academy this morning....bare shelves....

Re: Walmart Ammo Report
Last night I saw some 45 ACP at a local Walmart --three 100 round boxes-- and it was still there this morning (well, some of it anyway).

Yeah....I've got the dies and all that. Have you tried to buy any premium bullets for .223 or .308 in match profiles or even some of the standard weights? I've got about 8 lb of Varget.....enough power to load roughly 1225 rounds of .308, or 2200 rounds of .223, or some combination thereof. I've got hundreds and hundreds of rounds of brass for both calibers, and I've got thousands of large and small rifle primers. What I don't have is very many bullets. I concentrated my buying efforts in the runup to the panic buying on loaded ammo, thinking that the decrease of component availability in the distribution network would lag behind the decrease in ammo availability.AndyC wrote:If you don't hurry up and get some dies, I'ma come over there and thwack youlonewolf wrote:Two Walmarts and one Academy this morning....bare shelves....![]()

It didn't.
If things ever normalize, I'll stock up on loading components BIG time before I begin stocking up on ammo again. Can't afford to do both at the same time.

What TAM said. I didn't get in an order for 9mm bullets before the crash kicked in, and just this morning went looking online to place a bulk order. HOLY MOLY! EVERYTHING out of stock, EVERYWHERE.

Re: Walmart Ammo Report
As i noted elsewhere one of my local WalMarts has started selling reloading supplies. Bought some powder and some 200 gr Hornady xtp .451. They had no cartridges for sale. No primers. Went to another WM and got some 7.62-39 Tulammo and used the WalMart iphone app which was correct about stock on hand. I am seeing a general improvement in availability of reloading supplies on the internet but you must be fast to get what you want. Still a lot of hoarding. Just got 2000 9mm Remington 115 fmj from Midway.

Re: Walmart Ammo Report
At least you guys still have reloading equipment. I made a bad decision a few years back. Ammo was cheap enough and components were going up in price. I got lazy and just bought bulk. I ended up selling my presses, dies and buckets of brass because I never saw or thought this would happen in my lifetime. I've definitely learned a life lesson in my late 40s. If and when components are equipment are available again, first thing on my list is get back into reloading. I'm going to be kicking myself for years for letting that stuff go. Life lesson I won't forget again.

My local gun store got in some .45 ACP today. I guess I'm gonna have to get a .45......someday........

Re: Walmart Ammo Report
last tuesday around 8 am I happened upon most of a case of 525 rd bricks of 22, a case each 100 of 9 and 45 target loads and some .223 all freshly unloaded at a walmart near the airport.
The stores are getting stuff in. Just have to be in the right place at the right time. I try to check first thing in the morning or later in the evenings when its convenient. I seen enough of just about everything that I've loaded up several friends who were looking... 22 is the hardest to find still but in the last month I've seen it on the shelves a half dozen times at various stores. Not for long though of course....
Just keep at it and you'll find what you want.

Sorry.... I was just whining about lack of bullets more than anything else.AndyC wrote:I wasn't speaking to you, I quoted lonewolf - I've promised to teach him how to reload ammo using cast bullets; I have all the components, he just needs to get the dies. The Annoyed Man wrote:Yeah....I've got the dies and all that. Re: Walmart Ammo Report
I'm sure you have seen it yourself, but I took a photo of the Walmart ammo case near me and it is completely empty. What is funny is I have found a source for .380. Who would have thought, I could find .380, but not 9mm. Last time I saw a box of FN5.7 for sale it was at a gun show, it was $100 for a box of 50. Anyway you look at it that is $2 a bang.
