Can you conceal carry a black powder revolver in D.C. ?

Can you conceal carry a black powder revolver in D.C. ?
Can you carry a curio/relic in gun ban jurisdictions such as D.C. or states that don't reciprocate CHL with Texas such as California or Nevada?
I'm thinking about concealed carry of a .44 black powder Dragoon in D.C., California, and Nevada.
Is this legal?

Even if it might be legal--which I have no knowledge of...but seriously doubt--a .44 Dragoon is thick, is almost 13.5 inches long, and weighs over 4 pounds. That's an awful big hog-leg to conceal in a place where you cannot legally carry concealed. Unless you wear a trench coat all the time, how would you plan to hide it?drjoker wrote:Can you carry a curio/relic in gun ban jurisdictions such as D.C. or states that don't reciprocate CHL with Texas such as California or Nevada?

I am pretty sure that California makes no distinction if a pistol is a curio/relic or not. If it is a handgun, it is a handgun. Concealed carry licenses are issued by the counties, not the state, and your license issued in Placer County may not be recognized by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies. Without a CCW license, it is a BIG deal to get caught carrying a concealed firearm.
California does not have open carry for all practical purposes.
Trying to carry a black powder handgun, concealed or in the open, to get around California's gun laws is a singularly bad idea.

Reminds me of an article I read. Don't know I'm getting it exactly right, but some in the UK are buying and using black powder firearms to get around the almost total ban on guns. If they function but are 100 yo or more then you don't need anything to own one but if you are caught "using" it then they can get you. Modern muzzle loaders require some licensing but still easier to get then a modern gun. Of course black powder is an explosive and is regulated as such but modern smokeless powders are not regulated as stringently . There is an almost total ban on handguns to the point that UK's olympic shooters must travel to other countries to practice. Now here I've heard of some people in NY city keeping Black powder guns in their homes for self defense because it is to hard to get legal firearms and with black powder guns at least it's something if they must resort to it.

Just for clarity, the age of a gun has nothing to do with whether it's black powder or not. Many fully functional "Antiques" (manufactured in 1898 or earlier) fire modern cartridges. Also "Curio & Relic" guns (manufactured prior to 50 years from the current date or meet other federal criteria) are naturally not always "Antiques." Also, replicas of Antiques and C&R guns are neither C&R or Antiques. I don't see why Antique or C&R status, or black powder has anything to do with "carrying."
Firearm curios or relics include firearms which have special value to collectors because they possess some qualities not ordinarily associated with firearms intended for sporting use or as offensive or defensive weapons. To be recognized as curios or relics, firearms must fall within one of the following categories:
Have been manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date, but not including replicas thereof; or
Be certified by the curator of a municipal, State, or Federal museum which exhibits firearms to be curios or relics of museum interest; or
Derive a substantial part of their monetary value from the fact that they are novel, rare, bizarre, or from the fact of their association with some historical figure, period, or event.

Re: Can you conceal carry a black powder revolver in D.C. ?
I went to visit D.C. once and I was gonna use the safe in the hotel room across the potomac in Virginia when I noticed that it clicked as if it locked but it didn't lock. The safe would open if you just jiggled the door a little. So, I put a note inside the safe that read, "Nice try." I put my gun inside a tub of ice cream in the freezer.
I would rather leave a dragoon locked in the car in DC than a Glock in a tub of ice cream in Virginia.
Also, if you're unfamiliar with the roads there, you could accidentally drive across the Potomac with your Glock. They have scanners capable of looking through your car and an elderly couple driving a RV with a gun in it got arrested because the scanners picked up their gun inside the RV.
A black powder curio/relic, if legal would be a better option than a modern gun if you're traveling to a gun unfriendly state.

I just avoid anti-gun states unless I HAVE to go there. I was in California a week ago for 4 days/3 nights for a family obligation. I left my guns at home. If I had been driving, I would have brought along a revolver or low capacity semiauto and a lockable case for when I entered that state. But I was flying, and it was just too much trouble. But I don't go there to vacation, nor will I go to MA, NJ, NY, IL, or any other state that thinks I am part of an unruly mob which needs to be lorded over. Why spend my money in their economies?

If you have ever watched Storage Wars on TV then you would realize most small safes they encounter are easy to open. One cheapie they like on the show only has to be dropped on a corner for it to pop open.drjoker wrote:I went to visit D.C. once and I was gonna use the safe in the hotel room across the potomac in Virginia when I noticed that it clicked as if it locked but it didn't lock. These machines are not the end of privacy --privacy has already ended-- they're the beginning of a full blown totalitarian police state.

I don't know that black powder revolvers can be concealed without a lot of difficulty at all - legally or not.
