Gave away my last box of 9mm for a good cause

My wife is taking her CHL class today...

Even better is that she brought a friend...

Her friend is my youngest sons Montessori teacher...

After striking up a conversation a few months ago, during student pickup, my sons teacher went out on limb and mentioned something about guns to my wife. Being a Montessori school it is obviously a very left leaning atmosphere and she was relieved to find a family that had some "differing" views. One thing led to another over the last few months and my wife asked a couple days ago if she would be interested in joining her for her CHL class. Well the teacher thought that this was a fantastic idea!!!

I sent my wife off this morning with the last 3 boxes of 9mm we have. She said "I only need 50...right?". I told her to take all of it just in case. Good thing I did since I just got a call from my wife asking if I minded if our sons teacher used up the last of our ammo. No problem!!!!

So not only is my wife getting her CHL but we've also helped to add another woman and teacher to the ranks.

Yeah...I'm feeling pretty good about myself today

I am not very smart but occasionally I am lucky. Back in October, before everything went nuts, I felt like I needed to buy reloading supplies, since I was running low and only had enough on hand for for about 2000 rounds for my .45ACP. A Glock 30 is my carry weapon and also my IDPA shooter. I have been wanting to get back to being much mor active in IDPA after a slow couple of years and thought I would need more ammo at a reasonable price. I ended up getting enough for 15,000 rounds in .45ACP and about 5000 rounds of 9mm. And nothing was out of stock or overpriced.

For the next several years my cost of shooting the 45 is about 16 cents/round. The 9mm is about 11 cents/ round if I recall correctly.

I'll take good luck anytime.

That is a good cause indeed. I'm glad to hear that they both went to class. We always need more people enthused about shooting, but especially women. I have been very happy to watch the growth of women shooting through clubs like A Girl and a Gun and others. Shooting sports and especially self defense is not just a male domain (at least it shouldn't be).

I've got supplies for about 1000 rounds of 9mm that my dad gave to me over a year ago but now I can't find any dies anywhere. I have a Lee classic kit for 9mm if I really get desperate but I'm really over the labor intensive process of that setup. I stocked up on .224 bullets a year ago as well as .308's and .38's I still have a stock of primers from the madness of '08 that will last another few years and recently lucked out on finding 10#'s of H335. Completely out of IMR4895 for the Milsurp rifles and can't find any H4895 or IMR4895 to replenish.

I still have enough things to keep me shooting just not necessarily what I want to be shooting. I can last about another 6 months to a year before I'm reduced to just black powder and archery. The main supply problem is powder right now.

Either way I gave my sons teacher the ammo. Just doesn't seem right to charge her for it.

I am seeing ammunition in stock but the prices in some stores are astronomical. Just yesterday I was at one gun store and watched a fellow get ripped for a $80 for 100-rounds of Winchester 9mm. A gun store about a mile away had the same stuff for $40.

I bought 5 100 round boxes yesterday at Walmart for $22.97 a box. I have such a love/hate relationship with Walmart.

Well both my wife and her friend passed!!!!

My wife shot a 234 using my Sig226. She also shot the course of fire about 8 weeks ago as a dry run with her Sig290 and scored about the same.

Now on to the task of replenishing my factory ammo stock...

Seriously, you may never know the long term positive effect your generous gesture has had. She may be able to save her own life, or that of a future grandchild, or even that of your son one day. You made an offer that can significantly alter her life for the better because the timing of your gift may have given her the nudge to begin a life of self reliance and confidence, which inertia may have kept her from but for your gift.
