Bought ammo, shipped to my door, ALL WET! What do I do?.

Post by TREKFAN »

Hello all! I recently bought 1000 rounds of 9mm from Palmetto State Armory and I got the UPS shippment in today. The thing is, the ammo boxes inside are wet! It rained here in S. A. today so that's why. My question is, should I blame UPS for leaving it when it was raining outside (I think Ammo has to be specially marked so they know what it is, if so why would he leave it outside, you know), or should I blame Palmetto, or is this just something I have to suck up?

I am worried that since the rounds have been wet, they may not shoot or the moisture may effect the rounds. Can someone educate me please on the effects of ammo and water in regards to how long it takes to have an effect and who is liable for the potential 'damage' of my goods? Also, the boxes are salvageable but the sides are gonna fall off of em because of the water. Couldn't this also be constituted as damaged goods?

Thank you all for being patient with a noob like me. :tiphat: :cheers2:

Well you need to send that ammo to me I'll dry it out and return the :fire fired brass. :anamatedbanana Really, it's probably OK. Ammo has both mechanical and chemical sealing so unless it's been submerged for a long time it's good to go. :tiphat:

:iagree: I would still complain to UPS. I have had books, DVDs, clothing and other goods left on the porch exposed to the rain. If they moved them an extra foot or two then would have been dry.

I would not waste your time talking to UPS as they will only tell you to contact the Shipper. :banghead:

As frustrating as this is, unless the boxes were submerged for hours the ammo will be fine. Chances are that only the cardboard is ruined. :iagree:
Guns are like parachutes, if your ever in a situation that you need one and you dont have one, you'll probably never need one again.

I have always had to sign for ammunition deliveries. The websites even mentioned a signature was required. I'd take the boxes out and let them dry. I had a lot of ammo flooded in Allison and most it survived.

Good advice Andy, but I think you mean silica gel packs. (I use Fresh Step Crystal in pouches made from panty hose)

If you have to sign, that is just because the shipping option selected by you or the shipper, it's not a requirement.

I've had ammo dropped off many times, twice this week as well... and looking at both UPS and FEDEX sites, there is no such requirement i can find. So I doubt it is just an oversight by both my UPS and FEDEX local drivers.

I was thinking about a nice big container and 10-20 pounds of rice mixed in for a week or so after drying off each round by hand should do it.

Otherwise, as long as it's just water, be thankful you got some ammo to shoot. Many folks aren't as fortunate. :fire

I like the idea of sending it to me. I can dry it out with the help of my XD9 (the only 9mm I own) :fire :evil2:
