sights off on glock?

Post by 1s1k52 »

I have learned a lot since I first bought my Glock and had night sights put on. Now I am reaching out to everyone for their opinion on my sights and how they were installed. I didn't ask for anything specific when I got them installed. If you look at the picture you can see the rear is maxed out to the left and the front is canted to the left. This is the only pistol I currently own and have debated having them straightened out. I have read some people cant their sights one way or another sometimes. I would like my gun to a gun I could train with that would be close to other pistols should I need to use them. Thoughts?

How do you shoot with the sights as they are now? I just installed a set of sights on my G19. I took particular care to make sure the front sight was parallel with the frame. Centering the rear sight was paramount so I would have a starting point to zero from. If the gun shoots OK then I wouldn't do anything although, the way the sights are makes the gun look kind of well, wopperjawed.

Did you pay someone to do that? Cause if you did, you need to get them to make it right.

maybe off topic but i pretty much only use the front sight at close range. but leaning to the left would make that hard too.
there is a video on you tube i sure about sight intall on a glock. pretty simple to do

Bought the gun and sights at Bullet trap Plano. Since I bought it there it was free to install. I have shot it several times over three years of owning it and kind of just adapted. I didn't truly notice until a few months ago shooting the same
Setup on a Glock 22. I feel pretty stupid but honestly didn't know any better... I grew up on bolt guns and shotguns with a few revolvers. Buying this glock was a new realm for me. I shoot well enough to defend myself but not sure what that's saying. I had to redo my scope on 30-06 thanks to cabelas incompetence. Is this a fix
I can do myself without going broke getting tools?

I have heard the "front sight focus" a lot in the last year. My next pistol will most likely have an Xs big dot or something like that, but for now I would like this fix

The front sight will be easy it's held in place by a small screw that is threaded into the sight. You can gently twist the sight left or right to straighten it. The rear sight can be tapped with a brass or aluminum drift until it's zeroed after loosening the setscrew :thumbs2: . Watch the video it's a simple process. Go to an auto supply and buy a small tube of green Loctite (for parts already assembled.) After every thing is set put a few drops on both sights to hold them in place. :tiphat:

I'm not going to lie, that looks pretty bad. I did mine at home and they look just fine following this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4maCQhEIjoA. I'd be worried about the slide getting damaged working on that thing. You don't know if they went too far tapping the rear sight in from right to left, or if the didn't file the dovetail any and couldn't get it in any further from left to right. Also the front sight shouldn't have any wiggle, it should sit essentially straight. Either way, IMO, no bueno. What's the make and model of the sights?

I had my Ameriglo i-dots put on by TR Graham at a Houston gun show when he lived around here. (I think he lives in the Fort Worth area now) I would see if he does the Dallas area gun shows now and have him fix that for you. Plus he's got lots of other glock goodies. :tiphat:

You should be able to correct those sights without a vise. For the front sight take a pair of padded jaw pliers and simply twist the sight straight. Remember, a little goes a long way so don't bear down like you are trying to loosen a rusted lug nut.

The rear sight can be adjusted with a hammer (smaller the better) and a brass or aluminium rod. A good hardwood dowel will work too. Loosen the set screw if there is one, have someone hold the slide on a padded bench and, then tap in the direction the sight needs to go. If it won't move go to plan B - - - take it to someone who can fit the sight to the dovetail. If it wasn't so far from McKinney to Vidor I would have you bring it here and I would fit it for you. Good luck.

IMHO:
It is much safer and easier to do it with a vise. Sure it can be done, but I bet you it will be frustrating, difficult and time consuming. It also will not give you the quality you'd desire but more or less something you'll deal with. I got a Wilton industrial vise off craigslist for 40$, within 20 miles of my house. Just watch it. In fact here's one http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/[pre-paid legal]/3896013663.html . If you haven't fixed them in three years, I'd say you aren't in a particular rush to fix em'. Wouldn't you? ;-) For the record, a vise is, IMHO, a tool as necessary as a socket wrench. It's not used as often, but when you need it ::cough:: you need it. I will say, not if but when you purchase a vise, make sure it's a really nice and heavy one, at least 35lbs. A good vise doesn't have to necessarily be mounted to a work bench. In fact, I used my vise more when it wasn't on my work bench than when I bolted it down. Worst case scenario you can use one that's bolted on the back of a work truck parked somewhere and be done before they know it! :rolll

Vise rant over, on to business.

Field strip your glock and check whether or not rotating the front sight will bend/break the plastic or make it wiggly. You have a front sight tool? If not, you probably don't have a socket that fits there laying around somewhere. Another worthy investment IMO. It sounds like a lot of money, but trust me, once you do this, you'll never be satisfied with stock sights again. Wait a minute, you may not want that habit :reddevil

I am going to text that guy tomorrow it says "medium vise" would that not do? or what should I ask.

Any recommendations on any other tools or brands I may want to get?
