Flying Update

It was very simple as most shared. The only difference: I didn't have to go to or wait for a TSA screen.

After showing the pistols were unloaded, orange tags were taped on the container, suitcases were locked, and the bags were put in the conveyor behind the counter.

Bags arrived fine here in Anchorage.

I'm off to fish...

I fly out Monday on Southwest. The difference this time is that I'm using a short Plano rifle case so I won't have to open my suitcase. SW's two bag policy is great.

All was good on the flight to Alaska.

Upon arriving here to the airport in Anchorage, I declared my weapons, and two orange cards were provided and signed. I was then told to go to the TSA checkpoint. I asked again to confirm "to the TSA checkpoint.".....and was told again "yes sir, proceed to TSA".

I got in line but my gut told me something was amiss. I flagged an agent prior to the ID check, and asked him quietly about my firearms. The agent was super helpful, but told me that I was close to an arrest and fine, and walked me over to the "oversize luggage" check in area/room. We talked along the way and he explained I could have been fined $1,500.00, etc. again, he was nice and never threatening.

I checked that bag, and made my way back to the TSA checkpoint. The agent smiled and said "I see you checked your over size bag". I thanked him again and he said it happens often.

Trust me, UNITED AIRLINES will hear from me verbally and in writing.....

So, my fellow TexasCHL'ers......follow your gut.

(Save me the "you should have known" remarks....I was smart enough to recover from professional misdirection....)
