Purchased my first reloading press: Lee pro 1000. It hasn't been used much, but was stored in a garage and was kinda sticky so, i thought I'd take it apart and clean it. finally got the shell plate carrier out of the frame and the shell plate off, turned the carrier up side down and the detent ball and spring hit the floor. found the ball. the spring is here somewhere but i can't see it. What size spring do i need to replace it? where can i get one? it is the .45acp kit.

Ha... I feel your pain. Somewhere in my garage is the bottom cap to my Sig magazine.......somewhere. Last I heard it singing through the atmosphere on is spring assisted launch - then one ricochet off of something metallic - then lost forever.

thanks, gents. I ordered the part from FSreloading. Today I was cleaning my pistols after a trip to the range and when I pulled out my cleaning kit, i saw the spring on the floor. It was on my bench somewhere.

can't wait to start reloading practice.

I know that sound....I lost the detent ball on my MEC 9000, I even followed it with my eyes all the way to the concrete floor, then...one big bounce and it shot off into the solar system somewhere..!!!

I keep threatening to put carpet under my bench to help catch items like that. But I'm afraid it will just pile up with "stuff" ...!!

Oh well, I have a supply of detent balls now, I"LL NEVER DROP ANOTHER ONE.
BUT, If I didn't have a supply, I'd be dropping one every time I do a deep cleaning of that press and the others..!!!

It's the spring gremlins - - - they also like small parts. I try to keep a spare of the most often launched parts, some times I win most times they win.

Was stripping a Kel Tec P-11 on the patio and the spring went flying. spent hours on hands and knees, even dragged a magnetic over yard. Finally ordered a replacement from Kel tec for $2.09 which included shipping. Now when I strip a gun down its in a controlled environment.

I have put a lot of parts in a gallon-size, clear, baggie to strip so that the flying spring didn't go anywhere.

I've dis-assembled quite a few thingies with springies while sitting in the floor with a white bed sheet draped over me .... never lost a self launching part while doing that either
