.357 Cast Range Report

Loaded both 158gr SWC and 148gr DEWC's with 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 Win231 in. .357 cases.

In both weight bullets 4.5gr shot the most accurately at 25yds from a semi-rest.

148gr w/4.5 averaged 864pfs



Next step it to shoot 50yd silhouettes with it.

Hey, I used to own one like that! I sanded the checkering off the grips, though, to fit my hand better.

Who would've thought they'd be worth $200-$300 in original condition?

Barrel leading? How did the bullets fit and were there any issues?

no leading, no issues apart from the needed adjustment to the nut behind the grips

Doc.... thanks for the report. For the last couple of years I too have been concentrating on wheel gun loads, and loving every minute of it. I got a batch of Mr. Donnie's 138 gr wad cutters last winter (Bayou Bullets) for loading .38 spls for plinking with j-frames, and found the wad cutters to be very accurate target loads. I haven't loaded them "up" for the .357 but been thinking about it. You may have just inspired me to load up a few in .357, if I can divert my attention from playing with the .44 mag loads long enough.

nice revolver. What scope? And, what's the overall range of the eye relief? I've been thinking about a scope for my Super RH (44 mag) and after buying a 20" Rossi a couple months ago was wondering if the same scope would work as well on the "top eject" rifle.

Your .357 mag wad cutter report has about convinced me to load up some of the 138 grainers in .357 brass today .... if mrs surv would vacate my play room.

I use them on both centerfire and rimfire in the optics class.
