Air Rifle VS Aquila Colibri ammo

Post by puma guy »

I recall someone asking about noise levels for low power .22 ammo. Here's a comparison between a pellet gun and a SA revolver with Colbri. There's no detail as to whether it's the regular or super Colibri, I suspect they're the regular. Caution: there is one vulgarity at the end.

I didn't think it was safe to shoot Colibri's in a rifle?

george wrote:I tried the Colibri ones with the primer charge only from a single shot bolt action rifle to shoot rats. They were pretty quiet, but the accuracy was inconsistant. Sometimes two would overlap, and the next would be 4 inches away (10 yards). So, I got a pellet gun, instead (Beeman R7). Noise was bout the same, but the accuracy was very much better.

I have recently begun using the CCI Quiet ammunition for a different problem. They are really quiet, on par with my pellet gun. Won't cycle a semi-auto, though.
You may already be aware, but shooting primer only .22 in a rifle can result in the bullet being stuck in the barrel. I couldn't find the OP asking about noise, but it was about shooting in a pistol. I don't know from where the term Colibri is derived, but they're similar to the BB Cap (bulleted breech cap) and CB Cap (20 grain bullet) and just put in a long rifle case to allow it to be cycled in .22's that don't handle shorts. The BB cap and CB Cap have been around a since the late 19th century, known as Flobert rounds. One was loaded with a ball (BB Cap) and the other a conical projectile CB Cap. The Super Colibri has to have a small charge because the velocity is almost 600 fps opposed to 375 fps for the regular Colibri. CCI CB Longs are 710 fps with a 40 grn bullet and they are pretty quiet. I shot a raccoon in my brother's garage out of a Win 9422 and it wasn't any louder than my Sheridan pellet rifle.
