QD Vs Snap Hooks For Slings

Post by Abraham »

I now have my LE 6920 Magpul 2013 configuration.

I'm thinking of installing a Magpul rail on the side of the handguard and then installing a picatinny style attachment base / QD swivel to it, obviously on the front end and maybe installing an HD style hook on the other end.

Anything wrong with that approach? I would prefer QD on both ends, but it'll mean more money and hassle as I already have an attachment point set up to accept a hook style in place and hooks are inexpensive too boot. I thought I'd try it like that and if it doesn't work out, I can always change it.

I understand the VTAC sling can supposedly be adjusted more tightly to the body than the VCAS and that extra adjustment may come in handy. And yes, I appreciate slings are a matter of personal preference, but having a greater adjustment option seems a good thing.

Thoughts - and Thanks.

I just installed the VTAC single point on the my SIG M400 I used the short loop around the rear stock "neck". I wanted to get the QD for the single point but I thought that is money for little hook that I can save for ammo.

Thanks for the response Beiruty.

I just re-read my post and realized I posted HD hooks when I meant to post HK style hooks.

I also wonder if I install QD swivels in the rear (eventually) if I only need one QD female point for the sling or two?

Do you know?

Also, are all Picatinny rails 1.25 in?

Thanks,

The sling can be either 2 point sling like on my SIG 556 or single point like on the my SIG M400. So, it depends if you are going with 1 point or 2 point sling.
My SIG M400has 1QD point on each side (you need to have the QD swivel), I did not use it.
My SIG 556 has 2 fixed loops where I used a HK style hook for a point sling.

The QD and HK style hooks will serve you equally well IMO. I have found the QD buttons run a bit quieter.
