I'm firmly convinced that a large number of "protesters" of whatever current issue is there are only looking for an excuse to riot, rob and loot. The protest gives them cover and makes it much easier to get away with it, just like flash mobs do....

Agree, and I also believe that they would be rioting and looting to celebrate a conviction.
