Does anyone know anything about this handgun?

Post by RKirkwood »

My FIL has this pistol but doesn't know anything about it. I've tried to locate information on it but haven't had any luck. There is a crown stamped into it but no manufacturer name. the trigger folds forwards (as pictured) to fit into the pouch.

any ideas? :headscratch

Edited to add the maker marks

This looks like the pistols manufactured in Belgium buy a guy named Max Fliegenschmidt. If it's one of his, there should be the initials "MF" under the crown. This one appears to be fancier than most of the pistols he made.

There were tons of these types of folding trigger pocket pistols made post civil war. Here is a little history on them http://www.nramuseum.org/the-museum/the ... olver.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

With the crown, it may be Belgian, but could have just been a makers mark that was copied by one of the many small companies that produced them to help with the sale in making the buyer believe it was a better quality gun than it really was.

Not pinfire, no slots for the pins, the hammer angle is wrong, and the hammer has a "nose" for hitting the primer.

Yeah, the NRA site doesn't have that exact pistol, but tells you a lot about the fact that the folding trigger pistols were post civil-war. During that time there were a lot of companies making pocket pistols like pepper boxes and these types. They are real common and many many manufacturers were just little small companies that may or may not have even put their name on the firearm.

It appears to be a Hubert Remy - R crowned: rifled bore, of use of 1894 to 1968. Not sure what the q stands for.

That is only the mark for the Liege, Belgium proofhouse that did the testing of the firearm for approval. Does not mean it is a Remy manufacture http://firearmshistory.blogspot.com/201 ... -test.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Look under the grips and other places for manufacture markings or names.
