This is a loaded Ruger LCR hanging from a coat hook. A friend posted this on FB as a solution to quick access if there is an intruder.

Not sure if there are other kids in that house, especially kids that are just a bit older than the one in the pic...but kids are very creative when it comes to getting to things that are placed "out of their reach".

I don't have kids yet, and even I say hell no!

Let alone if somebody brakes into the house and there is a gun on display like that.....

NO, both of my boys would have found stuff to stack, or climb and had the gun, quietly and quickly in no time.

Not only is it a bad idea, but isn't that against the law with children in the house? :headscratch

My 14-month-old can climb the ladder to her brother's top bunk. Betting it wouldn't be long before she or one of her older brothers climbed that headboard or stacked something onto the nightstand. The down side to encouraging creative problem solving is that your kids become creative problem solvers. :nono:

Granted, we also teach them firearms safety and I'm pretty confident the older two wouldn't touch... but I'm not betting their lives on it.

easy to reach with a broomstick. any kid can swing one of those.
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

that's just teasing the kid. you know what happens when you tease a boy? you get a boy (doesn't matter the age) who figures out how to get what he's been told he can't have. that is such a very, very, very bad idea.....where the heck is MOM????? :banghead:

I know, I'm coming at it from 20 years of raising kids, many years of child care, etc, etc but this scares me to death

I challenge your friend to a race. We both get to start from lying down on the bed in the dark. He can use his hook. I get to use this

http://www.deansafe.com/gun-gv-1000d.html

Mine is no further from my bed than his hook but is bolted down about waist height. I regularly practice opening mine and know how long it takes. When the door drops, I have my hand on the grip and am ready to aim and fire. My guess would be that the gun on the wall is going to get dropped 2 times out of 4 when attempting to retrieve in in an emergency

Yep, mine costs more. The life of my granddaughter is worth a lot more to me than the cost of the Gun Vault.

If the kid doesn't get it, the first bump in the night is going to result in a hole in the wall after that hook catches the trigger when the firearm is being retrieved for action.
