Geissele Triggers

Post by Abraham »

Having shot my new AR, I now see why many choose to install a better trigger.

Certainly, the stock trigger is functional, but crunchy is the only way I can describe it.

So, what do you in the know recommend?

Geissele, at least from what I've read elsewhere is considered most excellent, but which one as their are different ones to choose or is Timney just as good or ...?

As you can tell, I haven't a clue.

Recommendations?

Thanks!

I'm a fan of Geissele Triggers. I have then in all my lowers. After reading the descriptions of the triggers, I decided that the Super Dynamic 3 Gun was best for my shooting.

The only one I have experience with is the CMC trigger I installed in my Colt.

It is a dramatic improvement over the OEM trigger group. It's almost as good as a hunting rifle.

I spent way too much time trying to choose a trigger for my SBR and ended up deciding on a SSA from them after going by their booth at the NRA meeting. They had all of their designs out on the table set up for you to test and this just felt the best to me. I have a cheaper nickel boron ALG on my regular AR that they tune or assemble or something and even it is a significant improvement over the stock trigger on my smith.

I don't have a Geissele Trigger, but my friends say they are the best. I installed a Timney drop in trigger. Super easy to install and a huge improvement over the factory trigger.

I have their G2S. It compares to their SSA but different pins and spot MP checks.
Runs around 165. I am new to AR's so I cant compare to anything but I do like the feel of the 2 stage trigger.

Weapon or toy?

Fighting guns get SSA or SSA-E for me.

In the various reviews everyone of the various Geissele triggers have five stars for excellence without a detailed explanation of the differences.

Could anyone explain the differences between the triggers or is it one of those unexplainable things where one simply has to 'feel' the difference or is it explainable after all?

At this point my AR is for general purpose and as such I guess it's a toy...?

gigag04 you asked:

"Weapon or toy?

Fighting guns get SSA or SSA-E for me. (In the reviews I read both were highly extolled, but some of the reviewers said they had an SSA and later bought a SSA-E for another gun and liked it even more, without explanation...

Toys have more, and nicer, options."

O.K., what does that mean, would you please elaborate?

Thanks for the help!

Sure:

A trigger used in a defensive weapon needs to still have some weight behind it to counter NDs, while being bumped around. A toy is like a trick gaming rig, and you can get away with smoother, lighter, and faster triggers that I wouldn't be comfortable running in a defensive role. Usually the cut off for me is around 3.5# between the two.

Regarding the differences in the two I listed, read here for all you wanted to know:

Even the Timney AR triggers I have are 3.5 lb or heavier. A smooth trigger with a clean break doesn't need to be super light.

I just put an SSA trigger on a 5.45 AR. It is smooth enough you don't notice the trigger when shooting. I have the same feeling about Timney and an LMT match trigger. The LMT was my first non standard trigger and finally convinced me I needed to upgrade my other rifles.

Yeah I like Timneys as well, but dont have enough experience to give a solid recommendation. I know lots of folks that really love theirs through.

Thanks all for your input.

I spent a number of internet hours researching the various Geissele triggers and have narrowed down my choices to the SSA or the SSA-E - thanks again gigag04.

If I'd just listened to gigag04 to begin with, I wouldn't have spent so much time researching, but I'm a glutton for punishment...but not really. The time spent confirmed those two triggers are both absolutely great for my purposes.

There's a u-tube of Bill Geissele (pronounced Guys-Lee I found out) on how to de-install the stock trigger and install the Geissele. Unfortunately, the camera work isn't detailed enough for me to fully understand how it's done, but Geissele is fun to listen to.

His description of why his triggers are of such high quality is well worth listening to. His camera presence is very professional as he is well spoken and at ease, unlike a great many u-tube productions.

Once I make my decision, I'll probably have a gun smith install my new trigger.

I have the SSA-E in the only AR I've ever built and I like it a good bit.

I'm also interested in trying the ALG Defense triggers that are tuned by Geissele.
