Can my ex take my gun

Re: Can my ex take my gun
This would be a civil matter. The LEO cannot force you to give him the gun. He would be referred to file a civil suit and try to get it back via a court order. After a while the LEOs will also get tired of his calling.
You may want to speak to the legal aid at your particular court. They can help filing for a protective order and have more resources then the officer on the beat.

This guy is starting to sound like one sick individual who knows she has a gun, and wants to make sure she doesn't have one anymore. I'd advise her not only to not0 give up the gun, but to try to get another one as a backup, and move to another location.alvins wrote:personally... unless its some rare gun i would just let him have it back just to keep him from bothering me. Go out and buy yourself a gun and call it lesson learned.
though i dont agree with the police.

After reading the posts, the guy is sounding like he may also be doing anything he can to show he is in control. His irrational actions are typical for a "control freak".

Re: Can my ex take my gun
Just as a separate issue..... I'm sure you're keeping the gun where your kiddos can't reach it when you are home, but are you securing where it can't be easily stolen when you're not/i] home? By the way, this would be a very good reason to get yourself a CHL if you don't already have one.....so that you can have the gun on you at all times instead of only when you're home. Other women on this forum who have their CHL and carry a gun, and my wife and daughter in law who also both have CHLs and carry, will tell you that there is a measure of additional confidence that comes with knowing that you have the means to protect yourself (and your kids!!!) at all times........not just when you are at home. I would say that your doofus ex-boyfriend makes this doubly true. Just something to think about....9mmmamma wrote:The gun is my only protection I am a single mother with 2 small children and well we dont live on the most wonderful side of town we have had break ins in the past hence why the gun was originally bought.

Re: Can my ex take my gun
After being around this forum for a few years, I have seen many times where a first post was a question concerning controversial situations. It makes sense to me. A person who has not had any reason to ask a firearms oriented question in the past may not have had any reason to search out firearms related forums. After coming into a situation of limited experience, it is quite common for one to seek out opinions from those who are possibly more familiar with the topic.pancho wrote:Very interesting first post. I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Get a copy of the 4473 from BassPro - you'll probably have to give them the exact date of purchase.
Send off the warranty card.
List the gun including serial number on your homeowner's / renter's insurance
All of this establishes proof of ownership in various forms, so that if he reports the gun stolen you can refute his claims.
Look into training classes / girl-with-a-gun groups / action pistol leagues to get more proficient with your gun.
Educate yourself about the various Texas self-defense laws including the motorist protection act.
Get a lawyer so you can get the process started of stopping the harassment.

Interesting responses from a couple of pikers who only have 5,255 and 7,269 posts themselves.03Lightningrocks wrote:C-dub wrote:And a very interesting response from someone with only 25 posts so far.pancho wrote:Very interesting first post. That's all I'm going to say.![]()

Take a look at http://www.corneredcat.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Or http://lipstickandlead.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Perhaps someone at these websites will have good insight and advice.
