After being around this forum for a few years, I have seen many times where a first post was a question concerning controversial situations. It makes sense to me. A person who has not had any reason to ask a firearms oriented question in the past may not have had any reason to search out firearms related forums. After coming into a situation of limited experience, it is quite common for one to seek out opinions from those who are possibly more familiar with the topic.

and common on many forums.. "new folks" find a forum when they have an Issue.. and do an internet search,, which leads them to a forum they have never been a part of, and they post a "1st" question, that can be a little out there for the long time forum readers.
As always, the more established readers watch and read carefully to see if it's a honest question, or a troll, worse an anti advocate fishing..

To the OP...
Several good ideas above, from getting a CHL, to seeking assistance in getting a restraining order..as well as doing your very best to remaining calm and courteous each and every time the police show up..even if it's 2:00 in the morning. Them waking you up, and you greet them with a smile and a laugh.. "did he bother you guys again with this stuff... Sorry to see you waste your time,, how can I help?"

If you legally can, until you can get a CHL, take the gun with you (under MPA) and secure in a small gun safe in the car.. when away from the home...

I gotta tell you Nick, when I think back to how ignorant some of my own questions and responses were when I first joined this forum (after you), I cringe at some of my old posts. And just yesterday or the day before, I was looking at a 2005 thread that somebody had resurrected in the last couple of days, and low and behold, it was one you started in 2005, asking about a definition of "self-defense" ammo. How far we have all come, n'est pas?


Point is..... There is nothing dumb or stupid about the OP's opening questions or remarks for a first post—particularly for someone who has had limited experience as a gun owner/user. This is how we learn. Better we should learn from a pretty knowledgeable group of people who are more than generally sympathetic to gun rights, than from the vacuous crap served up by media or trying to figure it all out on our lonesome. Personally, I'm grateful for the expansion of my horizon that has occurred as a member of this forum.

Get a copy of the 4473 from BassPro - you'll probably have to give them the exact date of purchase.
Send off the warranty card.
List the gun including serial number on your homeowner's / renter's insurance

All of this establishes proof of ownership in various forms, so that if he reports the gun stolen you can refute his claims.

Look into training classes / girl-with-a-gun groups / action pistol leagues to get more proficient with your gun.

Educate yourself about the various Texas self-defense laws including the motorist protection act.

Get a lawyer so you can get the process started of stopping the harassment.

As a lady CHL I agree with the above urgently! Please make sure you are confident with this weapon, if you are not already, and secure it from your kids. Our local police station gives away FREE gun locks. Please call yours and see if they do. Stay safe, confident, and aware! You'll sleep much better at night.
