I had to look just to see what they recognized, after all, anyone with any "common sense" knows that it wouldn't be our CHLs.

When my grandpappy retired from the Army he moved to upstate NY where my yankee carpetbagger parents had dragged me from my native San Antonio. Now I guess his motivation, as a native Texan, was to be near his daughters, but that would only be a guess, because most of the TX family disowned him, even though he had only lived in TX on and off during his military career.

My grandmother was incensed that she could not just swap her Texas driver's license for a NY one, she had kept her TX one or swapped for a local one in most other places and she saw upstate NY as just another duty station. And they made her take both a written test and a road test.

She was told that NY State did not recognize Texas' driver's licenses except for people just passing through, and even then only to a limited extent. I heard that tale many times.
