Reading this has made me come to see that I need to get my gear ready in case it hits the fan. I guess its time to look for a new truck too, as you never know where you will have to go. Thanks for the list of what everyone keeps in there gear, it will help me in setting up mine.

Does anyone else keep 10/11 meter radios in their vehicles as a a problem arises measure?
I have a 10 /11 meter radio that I can easily talk all over North Texas with. It has proven pretty handy during the recent heavy weather.
***thats too funny, i had no idea that the acronym S.H.T.F. would get changed, it this part of the 10 year old daughter rule? I have two daughters 17 and 19. I can assure you at 10 years old, they had NO idea what that meant. But is was FRIGHTENING what they did know.

That would cost us $$$$$, our plan doesn't give us cheap or even free texting...Liberty wrote:While voice over cell phones communication was Kaput, I was successfull in getting out some critical text messages out during the Rita evac. while the voice was impossible.stevie_d_64 wrote:Cell phones are kaput! Rita taught us that...We kept them on and on-charge just in case...But they are just about useless...
Cheap two-ways are the way to go if you are in a multiple vehicle convoy...That way you don't necessarily have to stay on someones bumper if you are evacuating together...
...
But that is a good thing if you have it...

I told you so!!!jbirds1210 wrote:two-way cheap radios are worth their weight in gold if a family is in more than one vehicle....I would make that part of any bug out plan.
Geesh, nobody believes me anymore!!!

But those 10/11 meter radios are peaking my interest...
Do you have to have a operators license for those things???
Edit:
Oh wait...Are those similar to the CB rigs???
I dunno, I've just never heard of these sets before...

I have a BOB for each member of the house and all have copies of files and photo's in them along with IDs and enough stuff for 2 weeks of living on the outside.
my 2nd BOB is full of ammo, gun parts and other gun things in case I need to do a repair or quick fix .
the Suburban is also equipped with a Propane system so it can run on either Pump gas or LP .
this was set-up back when Y2K was so in the news .
I have used my BOB already when I had to take a young lady away from her abusive husband it was easy to just walk in to the house an grip it and off I want.
So its a good thing to think about getting one togather.

Even the biblical name for a donkey gets censored. Some very protected 10 year old daughters in this neck of the woods.Humanphibian wrote:Does anyone else keep 10/11 meter radios in their vehicles as a a problem arises measure?

YEP, when it is used out of Biblical context! All 10 year old daughters should be protected! It is the RULE that MR. Cotton has placed into effect that keeps this board one of GREATEST there is. There are many other places for that kind of talk. Just for the information I am not the Moderator who did the moderating on this post, but whoever it was I thank them for a Great Job done. The moderators work hard at trying to follow the rules and be fair. Of course we are human also. Don't get me wrong...I appreciate the filters....but that one was outside of what I would have guessed would get corrected. It suprised me that it was instantly replaced with Politically Correct text.....kinda cool.
As for the 10 / 11 meter radios. The 11 meter part is standard CB radio. 10 Meter requires (by the letter of the law) that you be a licensed HAM to transmit on the band. You can listen all day long if you would like.
The whole amature radio world seems to operate by it's own set of unwritten rules. You can pretty much do what you want, even if it is outside of FCC regulations, as long as you mind your manners and adhere to proper etequette (sp?). If you get too rambunctious, a phone call will be made....next thing you know the "Suits" are knockin on your door and taking your equipment and emptying your bank account (FCC fines are VERY steep).

Are you all talking about my post? That is the way that I wrote it, no one changed it. I wrote it that way because of the 10 y/o rule.carlson1 wrote:YEP, when it is used out of Biblical context! No sir, I was referring to those of us who complain about the way we view the 10 year old daughter rule. There are some of us that have post edited and then we carry it on and on and on. Because a word is in the Bible does not mean we should take it out of context and use it daily.chewy555 wrote:Are you all talking about my post? That is the way that I wrote it, no one changed it. no......I'm talking about my post up the page. I typed the acronym in the first line. When it actually posted it read "problem arises". It changed it instantly, like it pulled it from some kind of magic hat.....I don't think a Mod. even had time to see it, it was that quick.

Ok, sorry about that. And I to think that just because it is in the Bible does not mean we can use it out of context.carlson1 wrote: No sir, I was referring to those of us who complain about the way we view the 10 year old daughter rule.
