Glock E serial number recall? Truth or just a myth???

Post by BigBangSmallBucks »

I just bought a used glock a couple weeks ago and today I came across a thread on a random forum saying there is/was a recall on glocks that have the 1st letter E in their serial number. So I searched this forum and Glock's official website and didn't find anything indicating that. So I want to know is the recall real or internet folklore? And please if it is real and you've sent yours in tell me about your experience, what glock replaced and how long the turnaround time was.

It is indeed fact. There was an issue with a defect in the materials used in the rails. I had an E series where one of the rails literally broke off.
I called Glock and explained the issue. They gave me a RA #, I sent them the gun, they sent me back my upper on a brand new lower.
The only thing that I wasn't real happy about is I had to pay the shipping to get it there - but I did buy the gun used.

My serial # began with ELF... I don't remember the turnaround time.

Is it true when Glock replaces the frame they add a 1 at the end of the serial number? And paying to ship is what I was afraid of.

Not what they did on mine. The new frame I received had a different numbering scheme - started with a G followed by 5 numbers.

The E series were produced long before the gen 4s came out.

I did a google search for "Glock E series recall" This was issued in 2002 so, if your Glock is an E series the chances are it's 1. OK and will stay that way 2. already been sent in 3. may break and need to be sent in. The failure is not catastrophic the gun will still work with the hunk of rail gone just not quite as well. If I had an E series that I had been shooting for some time I would look closely at the rear guide rails and if there was no sign of cracking I would just keep on keeping on. If a crack was found I would contact Glock. :tiphat:
