M1 carbine military service

I have a M1 carbine .30 made by Inland Div. That I inherited from my dad. I know he got it from a friend well before I was born and it came with a Japanese style bayonet instead of the American version, one 7 round magazine and two 15 or so round magazines in the original magazine pouch. The pouch is stamped Avery 1943.

My question is where can I go to look up this rifles history. Is there a database that tells the military service of rifles like where and when they were deployed if ever. I can read the serial number still. I don't plan on ever getting rid of this rifle and would like to know if it tells a cool story. Can post pics later if y'all want.

Go to the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) forum and there is a M1 carbine section. Someone there might be able to help.

I doubt there's any way to get specific information on it other than roughly when it was manufactured, unless someone has written a story about your particular rifle.

I've never heard of a 7 round magazine for an M1 Carbine; I know there are aftermarket 5 round magazines for hunting.

Back in the early 60s there were no 5 round magazines available in my area, if any, so I made one of my own by cutting down a 15 and adjusting the spring. Still have it, still works.

Besides the CMP Carbine forum, this is the best web site for M1 Carbines, both original military and commercial by far.

During WWII, only 15 rd magazines were made and issued. Post WWII, for the M2 Carbine, 30 rd magazines were made and issued. No 7 rd magazines were ever made for the military and I never heard of a 7 rd magazine for any M1 carbine.

Ha you guys are right. I never really checked that close before but now I can see the JB weld on the bottom of the magazine. I think they tried to make a 5 round, but must have measured once, cut once. Thanks for all the info. I'm gonna try those forums and sites. Probably too many Avery's in 1943 to try to find this particular guy. Here are some pics with it next to the 15 round mag.

According to it, my Winchester was manufactured sometime in 1944. There are no service records for them, so finding out how or when it might've been used is impossible.

Interesting. That can't be a complete list, Saginaw is not on it, nor is my serial number.
