"Deputies have no information on a motive or on whether the two men knew each other"

I bet they knew each other and there was specific motive, even if it's never made public.

THIS is why I carry in church. The thing is, even if there is some reason not mentioned in the article, that doesn't mean that it is something that reflects badly on either the pastor or his church. Maybe the shooter was a disgruntled ex employee. Maybe the shooter was a disruptive former congregant who had been previously told to stay away from the church, and he blamed the pastor for the ostracism. Maybe the shooter was angry because his wife had been getting counseling from the pastor, who told her she didn't need to stay with an abusive husband. Maybe....it's entirely random.

Or... it could be something else. We just don't know. That's why I'm not taking any bets.

problem is a person can't carry in church in LA, so they had no defense

Not exactly. Each church gets to decide if they want to allow CC.

Changed Aug 15, 2010. Now churches get to choose.

 Churches, Synagogues and Mosques choosing to allow concealed carry will have to inform their congregations of the decision.

ah, I didn't read far enough....

but notice, you have to take an extra day of class

and, it's basically an "opt in" deal....and it's newer than ours and alot of people still think it's illegal here.

It's a pain but doable. I would assume that most churches that would be willing to opt in have leadership that keeps close tabs on CC laws. Unfortunately the vast majority of church goers don't understand the need to for individuals to be armed.

This is horrible. His poor wife witnessed this and the congregation. What a horrible vision to have in your head. I'm glad he turned himself in. They said that there was some kind of background between the church and the killer. Annoyed Man had it right.
If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you carry a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

Detailed story on the murder. Plenty of time for a CHL or CHL's to kill the intruder before he killed the pastor. The murderer's first shot with apparently a shot gun, missed and exploded a flower pot. With that the Pastor ran and was shot in the back, murderer then went up to him and fired the fatal shot.

The murderer left the church four years before but relatives said he mentioned no ill will.

Sad.

Just saw an article that said the shooter is a former deacon of the church.

After services have started we have an imaginary line that NO ONE crosses as they approach the platform.

If people attempt to pass that line little men dressed in black fall from the ceiling.
