Glock 26 or XDs 9mm

Post by jmra »

Trying out the 9mm world of concealed carry. Have narrowed my choices to a gen 4 Glock 26 or a XDs 9mm.
I have a long relationship with Glocks and am a fan, but all of those have been .40s. Also have a XDs .45 but with the move to 9mm, it will be going bye bye. I haven't shot the G26 or the XDs 9.

So, for those who have shot both, what say you? Is there a big difference in shooting the two? Is there a significant concealment advantage with the XDs? If so, is it significant enough to justify the loss of 3 rounds? Any other factors I haven't considered?

My first 9 was an XD. I bought a Glock19, then I inherited my brides Glock 26 when she became a Sig fan. I've still got my Glocks and the XD went the ways of the for sale adds. I didn't care for the trigger, safety, or grip of my XD, and I couldn't shoot it as well.

Thanks, good to know. I managed to get my hands on both a G19 and a G26 which I plan on taking out to shoot this week. That may answer a lot of my questions.

Shot both. I like them both. Have the 9 since before the .45 came out & wont trade it off.

I've shot 26 & 27 several minutes of each other, I did like them both. Haven't had a chance to shot an XD. A friend of mine at work says he loves his XDM (I know not the same)

Thanks, I am not interested in the XD or the XDM. Only the the XDS.
My first Glock was a 27. Liked it a lot but that was before I had my CHL so it was more of a car gun.

Do you have an idea what holster setup you are going to use?

G26 has a much larger capacity than XDs (7+1). If you already have an XDs .45, the 9 is identical. Only difference is recoil and that is probably minimal. So the G26 is heavier, thicker, and slightly more difficult to conceal. The XDs9 is going to be lighter, (pocketable) and have less capacity. Your call on what tradeoffs you are OK with.

I had an xds .45 which i do miss but my edc has become the G26. It's short, fat, but i have no problems concealing in t-shirts with only a tiny bit of the handle right above the belt line. It'll take a good stiff gun belt and good leather/kydex type holster but it's not hard to do. i shoot my glock so much better than any other pistol i've ever shot including my kimber ultra raptor which my wife now carries and uses for bedside.

The crossbreed Supertuck Delux hide the 19 or 26 just fine, the only noticeable difference to me is the weight. Not a problem with a good belt though.

Mr. cotton had a holster for sale a while back that would probably fit it.
