I'm not a fan of the big city, but you do have to give Houston credit. Housing is still affordable, crime is lower than most big cities, and there are a LOT of companies headquartered here.
While a lot of these companies are indeed chemical, refining, or shipping, (especially the top list of Fortune 500 companies) you see many others are on the list as well.

Add in 4 state universities, 3 community colleges, 5 private universities, 3 law schools (OK, that's probably too many law schools

), and 25+ hospitals, this place is a lot more than just energy & shipping.
Magpul would do well to locate here and benefit from the lower transportation costs out of the Houston ports.
