Anyone own a new model Marlin 60?

Post by jmorris »

I just pulled my old 1972 JC Penny Foremost M-6660 (Marlin 60) out of the closet because someone just gave me a sack'o'22s. Almost 500 rounds of shorts, LR (reg and HV), and shot shells. I'm going to take it to the range next time and shoot up some of that but was thinking, once the great .22 shortage is over, of not neglecting it. Probably been over 10 years since I shot it last.

I was thinking of putting slightly better iron sights on it. Looking at it though I realized that I wouldn't be able to replace the front sight because of the way it's made. When I went looking online I did find replacement front sights. Looking at the Marlin site I figured out why. My '72 has a front site and tube band all in one. The modern ones have the tube band separate from the sight and slightly farther back. I cannot tell from the parts manual how it attaches to the barrel. Any one here enlighten me?

Thanks

(And before you suggest, if no one does I am going to go join the Marlin owners web site and ask there.)

Never mind, found the answer in a picture on another site. There's dovetail cut into the barrel. Don't think I'm going to be doing that.
