.22LR Holy Grail
Please don't think bad about me, but in the last 3 weeks, I have ordered lots of .22LR from Cabela's.

total=6500 rounds
I am buying for myself and my 3 adult Children and for 1 friend. I make my friend pay me what I paid and I am waiting (going to be a long wait) for my children to pay. We have all we need now and I will share my secret. The $39.99 is for 500 rds of Blazer ($27.95 +$8.95 shipping + tax). The $63.21 is for Winchester M-22 1000 rds ($49.95 +$10 shipping + tax) The other amounts are for various brands like Federal, all being 500/525rd bricks.
This is kind of a puzzle, so follow closely.
1. Go to the Civilian Marksmanship Forum Ammunition thread and then go to the "cabela's .22LR Availability" thread. This link should take you directly there:
http://forums.thecmp.org/showthread.php?t=129668" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There is a poster named "extractr" that knows when the ammo is available and will post the info. I go to the last page of the thread and see if people are talking about it being available. Sometimes they will post a link to the available ammo and other times they will not. On Pg 21 at the top is a link from "extractr" for the Blazer and on p22 in the middle is a link from "CCholderinmaine" for the M-22. I tried to put the links directly here but they would not work. Select the link for the product you want and then look on this page and select "view all items in cart". They will ask for your zip code for tax/shipping info. Enter the zip and hit "checkout". You will be told then if the product is available. They get Blazers in almost every day, so as you can see from my orders, you can get them....just be patient and keep trying. Every time you go to the page, it will add a box to your basket, so remove all but one before you checkout. They only allow one box per brand daily. From this point, just fill in the info they want. It takes about 5 days to get your order. This is easier than it sounds. I have it down pat now. I go to the CMP Forum/ammunition/cabela's .22LR availability/pg 21, select link at top of page....go to view cart..enter zip code and hit checkout. If someone says the M-22's are available, I go to pg 22, half way down and select that link.

Re: .22LR Holy Grail
That's a total of $446.77, or 6.87¢ per round. It wasn't that long ago that a brick of 550 rounds cost $10, or 1.8¢ per round. Times have certainly changed. In years past, even when other calibers got temporarily scarce, .22LR never fluctuated that much, either in price or availability. But this administration has caused more panic buying than ever before in my lifetime; and of course the added production lines to meet the crushing demand for 5.56mm, .308, .45, and 9mm mean that .22LR simply isn't being manufactured in quantities near enough to meed the demand. It never seemed to matter that much until people began to think more and more in apocalyptic terms and then the value of a good .22 became really apparent. It doesn't matter that an apocalypse is not likely to happen. People want to be prepared, and having a bunker full of .22 is a good way to do that.howdy wrote:Please don't think bad about me, but in the last 3 weeks, I have ordered lots of .22LR from Cabela's.

Not sure why anyone would pay those prices for .22 long rifle but to each his own I guess.

Well, with gas costing $3.15/gallon and having a big truck, I will "pay" some amount more just to go look for it. Academy restricts that to 2/50 rd boxes, and they have it about 1 out of three visits... so I add $1.50 per box for gas = $4.00/box X 10 boxes = $40.00/brick. Do you think the price will ever go back to $10/brick. I use to pay $6.00 /20 for my .223 and now it is $10.00/20 with a plentiful supply. Many people on this forum have expressed their desire for "cheap" .22LR ammo. This is about as cheap as I can find.

That is what 22lr cost now, get used to it. If you know of a place selling it for 2012 prices please share.Right2Carry wrote:Not sure why anyone would pay those prices for .22 long rifle but to each his own I guess.

Re: .22LR Holy Grail
Wal-mart sells it for much cheaper when it is in stock I assure you. Yes it is hit and miss but when I find it the prices are much lower than what was quoted above as the holy grail. I am not desperate enough to pay those kind of prices for .22. Last time I was at Wal-mart I scored 3 boxes of winchester 333 round packs approx 13.00 dollars a box. 40.00 for a box of 500 is price gouging and NOT what .22 is going for these days in stores that have some integrity left.Carry-a-Kimber wrote:That is what 22lr cost now, get used to it. Re: .22LR Holy Grail
Try to find out when your local Wal-Mart receives ammo delivery and get there within an hour or so of that time. I was able to replenish my .22lr supply over 3 weeks this way. I found Winchester 333 round packs for about $13 like Right2Carry said, and I also found Federal 500 (or is it 525? they're not in front of me) round bricks for I think $18-19. The last day I bought any, there were 12 bricks of the Federal 500 sitting in the ammo case. I haven't been back since I'm stocked up now, but I'm sure they're still getting that same weekly delivery at about the same time. You may need to ask several employees though, one sporting goods section employee admitted to me that he buys as much as he can after his shift and sells it online. I doubt he'd be very willing to tell folks when the ammo trucks come in.Right2Carry wrote:Wal-mart sells it for much cheaper when it is in stock I assure you. Shopping at WM tonight for clay pigeons and 12G and asked about 22LR. They had a 550 Federal value pak, $19.97 same price I paid a few years ago. Said they get them every few weeks. Bought the one he had. Had a pretty well stocked ammo case.

I Don't believe it, sorryAndyC wrote:I'll carry on shooting my .45 for 4c ea, thanks.

Minimum .2 for primer, .2-.5 for powder and .4-.6 for projectile. That's at least .8 a round and that's if you have 10+ year old primers you bought for 20/1000, and you are using Titegroup or Clays with a tiny load, and really cheap (perhaps self cast) lead projectiles. And your labor.
I agree, I wouldn't shoot as much .45 as I do if I was buying factory, but I ain't reloading it for 4c each, no way. I load 230gr Speer TMJ that I picked up 5+ years ago for .8 each, and with powder and primer, I'm loading very nice rounds for 12-15 cents each.

Almost as cheap as the CCI Blazer Brass that I used to buy at Walmart pre-Obama for 9.97 a box. Still have a bit of it

At Walmart, best deal on 45 is Federal, 100 rds of 45 ACP brass for $28.xx If you can find it, load up. It is good for reload if you a reloaded. Reload would cost as much.
At Walmart, 100 rds CCI and the 550 rds bricks are the best deal out there.
