Don't shoot 300 BLK in your 5.56 rifle..

Post by Jumping Frog »

The results of firing 300blk through a 5.56 barrel.

That's a projectile stretched in the center section.

Shooter was unharmed, mag blew out and gun was damaged.

Oh boy, can the bolt even lock up with a 30 cal round in a 22 chamber? I wouldn't think so, but I don't know.

Wow, that's pretty crazy. I'm actually surprised that it chambered and the bolt locked up.

I wonder if there was poor neck tension and the bullet got pushed back into the case when chambering.

The 300 blackout is a cut down 223 neck sized to to 308. The oal on a 223 is 2.25. the oal on a 300 blackout is 2.26. I can see this happening.

If you got it through the barrel, at least it would have one heckuva ballistic coefficient!

Glad I didn't do that but it is a pretty cool photo. That's some serious swaging.

I'm having a hard time believing that photo. Mostly it's the "bullet". It supposedly underwent a sudden and extremely violent event, but looks pristine. The jacket is disturbingly uniform with no tears or distortion? The base of the bullet doesn't look like it's been subjected to that much heat or anything else.

I believe I smell Photoshop or a very well crafted hoax.

I'm not saying such an event could not or has not happened. I just don't believe this is really a photo of such an event.

I recall a post here on the forum about a similar incident (.300 BLK in a .223/5.56 that resulted in a catastrophic failure. I can't seem to find it but I found this when I Googled it.
