SIG/Sauer 1911-22 Quick review

Post by puma guy »

Took a little break from watching the grand kids to try out my SIG 1911-22. Didn't have a real range, just a spinner target my son-in-law set up. I haven't had a chance to take it to the range so I carted it up to Fischer while we babysat. I had some CCI Min-Mag LRHP and some CCI CB Longs. My son-in-law had some Aguila SuperMax and some Remington LR Subsonics. The high velocity rounds functioned in the pistol flawlessly. The Rem Subsonics would eject the empty, but the slide didn't travel rearward enough to chamber. The CCI CB Longs barely moved the slide. I know it moved a little but how much I couldn't tell.

I was about 25ft from the spinner and it appears the pistol shoots a little low and to the left. I could hit the small inside spinner if I aimed just to the right and just above the opening for the spinner paddle.
The feel is just like a 1911, though the heft is a little light. I weighed it when I got it and I think it's about 35 oz. Sights are three dot with a yellow tint. Trigger pull is not bad at all and will probably improve some with usage.

We have had one like the one pictured for more than a year. We have really enjoyed it. The GSG and SIg are the same gun, so if you are looking for magazines remember they both fit.

I have the SIg which cost more of course than the GSG. The GSG mags do fit and look identical to the SIG mags, however the GSG mags do not drop freely like the sig mags do when pushing the mag release. I guess I could sand them down a bit but have not bothered. The GSGs will drop if they have a coupole rounds in them so it's pretty close.

I like mine, but I did take out the mag disconect, and I took a dremel to the thumb safety. It was so square it bugged me. I also lightened the grip safety spring. It was so strong some people couldn't grip tight enough to make it function. I use this pistol for newbies so I didn't want he hassles.

As far as the "heft" the Colt model feels heavier but has a FAR MUCH WORSE trigger.

Go ahead right now and call sig to send you a replacement guide rod and spring. It will be free, and you might need it...just saying.

Other than that it's an awesome little .22. Big benefit is it is the only one that will lock open on empty. :hurry:

I have one too. I love it. It has taken everything I have put in it.

The trigger is much better than the SIG Mosquito.

The 1911-22 will definitely be my zombie gun when the time comes!

Really? I think the one we have been shooting could use a replacement on the spring.
What do I ask for?
