A question for Mr. Camp, please

Post by Walkin' Jack »

My daily carry is the G-36. I've never felt the need to carry a BUG but lately I've been keeping any eye open for something in the way of ankle carry. For those occasion when I need to dress in ways that prohibit concealed carry I have been wanting something small and light weight.

I'm looking hard at the Keltec P32. I know it's a mouser but it would be better than nothing. I have read mixed reports on it's reliability. I've also heard/read negative things about it's magazines.

I handled one the other day and didn't like it's trigger much. but it was a used one so I'm not sure whqt to think.

In your opinion, would this be a serviceable weapon. It will not be used as a range gun. I'll run a couple of magazined through it occasionally to keep it dialed in but that's all.

Thanks for your opinion and comments.

Well, why not another G36? Magazine commonality is worth a lot. The typical mouse guns are a non-starter for me. Nothing mousey about the compact Glocks, though.

Yes, I thought about that but the smallest Glocks are the 9mm G-26 and the .40 G-27. The problem with them is the weight.

These little Keltecs are light as a feather and wafer thin. Not a lot of fire power I know but, ...a well placed round and all that. It would be mostly when I have to wear a suit in the summer months like for weddings, funeral and dressy parties. ;-)

The P-32 mags and high quality and I have never had a problem with them. There is, however, a situation that can occur when using HP ammo called rim lock. The rim of a cartridge in the mag can hang behind the rim of the round below it, preventing feeding. You can avoid this by using FMJ ammo which is arguably better in the .32acp anyway.

There are also spacers that fit the rear of the mag to take up the length if you wish to shoot the shorter HP's.

Why not the P3AT? Not appreciably larger with more punch.

WJ,

If you are interested in the KelTecs then get the P3AT it is only slightly
larger than the P32 and the 380 is a lot harder hitting round. I have one and carry it in my weak hand pocket in a DeSantis Nemisis. Give me a shout if you want to shoot it. It's a handful!

Thank you Mike. I apprediate the info. I will likely be sticking with FMJs because in this caliber I believe the issue of penetration tops the need for expansion. Now I have seen test results that the Cor-bon performs a lot better than all the others. In this test 100% of the Cor-bon expanded. I don't remember what the next best was but only 2/3 of them expanded. The little .32 just needs to get on in there I'm a thinkin' ;-)

I had a .380 years ago. Didn't care for the bark--to-bite ration. They may have improved in the years since then but I'm still makin' up my mind and I'm open to all suggestions. Knowledge is power, or so they say.

My light carry is a FEG PA-63. It is what I carry with a suit or some other attire that prohibits me from carrying my Hi-Power. If you're not familiar, the PA-63 is an aluminum-framed Walther PPK clone, in 9mm Makarov (aka 9x18). This caliber is a ballistically like a hot .380. I normally wear mine IWB in a Bianchi "Professional" 100. I carry Hornady XTP 95gr in it. These rounds have feed flawlessly through my gun. Cheaper steel-cased hollow points (such as Silver Bear) exhibit the rim-lock problem other's have mentioned are common with the Kel-Tecs. Ball ammo does not have this issue. Aim Surplus currently sells these guns for $129.95, including 2 magazines.

Walkin' Jack , if you want to carry JHP Cor-Bon in a P-32, I recommend buying a second magazine then installing a Kel-Tec rimlock spacer kit ($10). Of course if you have a bit of wire you can make a Flyer Wire for free. I keep Cor-Bon in the pipe and top of the magazine with FMJ below which also solves the rimlock problem. There are a couple of beneficial web pages you may wish to read http://www.goldenloki.com/ammo/gel/32acp/gel32acp.htm & http://1bad69.com/keltec/rimlock.htm
