Godzilla

Post by philip964 »

My post on Noah, got a lot of interest, so here is one on Godzilla.

I saw it tonight in 3D Imax. The tickets were $17.50 each. My son complains that if I don't want people to think I am an old codger, I should not talk about how much things cost when I was younger.

I ignore him so... I remember going to a movie for a $1.50.

Anyway for a Godzilla movie it was one of or could be the best made. Certainly ten times better than the last one they made that attacked New York City.

Not really spoilers from here on.... Lots of help from our military, so it was very pro-military. Seems it was also anti nuke. One reviewer said it was anti anti global warming, but I didn't see that.

Great special effects. Lots of Navy ships being pushed around like tin cans. Reasonably good plot underneath the whole point of seeing Godzilla tear stuff up.

Several new points to the movie added to the interest. First time I have seen EMP used in a movie, which added a lot of interesting special effects and plot twists. In many scenes, the Godzilla destroying a city is almost shown as a backdrop to what is happening on the screen to the human actors. Plus a lot of action is shown on TV newscasts, so you are watching the action on the movie screen which is showing a TV set screen. The movie is designed so that children can attend. So there are a number of child characters who have a perilous adventures, but all come out ok.

We all had a good time and the wife enjoyed it as well. It is scifi action adventure, there are no heavy themes or dramatic acting. If there was symbolism, it was well over my head.

I'm still not going to see Noah. Oh, wait...Yeah, Godzilla. I'll likely see that.

I believe they used an EMP device in the movie "Broken Arrow"
Travolta and Howie Long.
Guns are like parachutes, if your ever in a situation that you need one and you dont have one, you'll probably never need one again.

Moth monster= Anthropogenic Global Warming
Godzilla = Nature's ability to sort it self out, despite the hubris of man.

In my humble opinion, I enjoyed Pacific Rim more. The monster were smaller and the plot holes were bigger. But at least I could clearly see the fight scenes.
